Based on the reviews, Traditional Karate Center in Sugar Land is described as the best traditional Dojo in Texas, offering a true Okinawan style of karate called Goju-ryu. The school is led by Sensei Ramon Veras, who is one of the most knowledgeable instructors of this form of karate. His passion directly translates through professional teaching skills, showing not just the forms but the actual application, giving students a full and true understanding. The dojo is extremely family oriented, offering classes for both kids and adults. One reviewer noted how Sensei relates to children in his training method, leading them to enroll their 9-year-old grandson. Another reviewer, who started after COVID, found the dojo to have a very friendly and laidback atmosphere, with no contracts and no need for 30 days’ notice for time off. The teachers genuinely care about the karate and want to see students improve. Students can train over Zoom and in person, and there are special opportunities to train with visiting Sensei from Japan. A young student thanked Sensei for helping with Sepai Kata and Kihon, and for making them feel like they belonged even though they were not on the national team. Winning gold in Kata and two bronze medals at the Junior Olympics was attributed to his guidance. The school preserves the art and integrity, offering an amazing Dojo experience.
This dojo has a warm and supportive atmosphere, and the families and kids here are genuinely kind and welcoming. It really feels like a community.

Hands down the best traditional Dojo in Texas. Amazing instructors and Seminars. Ramon Sensei preserves the art as well as preserving integrity. If you’re looking for an amazing Dojo experience this is the place for you.
Years ago I studied a traditional Okinawan style of karate called Uechi-ryū. As I wanted to get back into a True Okinawan style of karate, similar to what I had studied. I found the Traditional Karate Center located in Sugar Land TX, where the school teaches the true art of an Okinawan style of karate called Goju-ryu
There are many “karate” schools out there that offer different styles of karate in which they may have been water down or altered away from the traditional karate form, and are geared more towards show competition rather than actual art of self-defense .
