“Tim is fantastic, I highly recommend him! He has helped us out several times now, stump grinding aggresive hackberries near our foundation, pruning our live oak trees and overgrown shrubs like cenizo, and removing invasive species like white mulberry.
When he's done stump grinding, each time he has asked us if we want the holes filled in afterwards, and if we want him to leave the wood chips as mulch. He's mindful of when it has rained enough for the soil to be soft, so as to avoid the heavy machinery tearing up huge divots in the lawn. He is also careful to use a hinged plywood screen to protect the house and other plants from damage.
Tim is friendly, professional, patient, and clear about what he can and cannot do for a given space. He came out again yesterday to remove a Chinese lacebark elm that had grown badly from a stump left by the previous owner of the property. He was clear that planting trees is not in the services he offers. However, while he was here, not only did he help with advice for placement of four native Texas trees we bought, he also used his stump grinder to dig the holes for the saplings! In this rocky limestone and clay soil we have here, that is no small thing.
My before and after photos show the struggling lacebark elm and how it looked to replace it with a native sapling. He was kind enough to work around a meeting I had at 9am, so he arrived before 8am to chainsaw the tree, then came back after 10:30am to do the stump grinding. I had a specific angle I wanted for the new tree, so I sent him a photo of the stump with a markup, and he dug the hole exactly where I wanted it, at just the right depth. He made sure we knew that the stump grinder hit limestone, so we were able to research and confirm that the new species is okay in limestone soils. I'm including the photo after my spouse planted the new tree, which seems happy in its new home. It's such a relief!
One stubborn non-native lantana was too close to a fence and the grinder might damage the planks, so Tim went over our options and didn’t mind at all when I wanted to research the targeted herbicide he offered for woody species. He didn’t push or try to convince me when I decided that the rain forecast made it a higher risk, and so I didn’t want to use it in an area where we plan to sow wildflower seeds for a pollinator garden. He respected that decision and offered to work with me again for other options if it came back, which I really appreciate.
Tim has done excellent work every time he's helped us out, and once when he had space in his truck he also did us a kindness by hauling away some old junk the previous owners left behind, since he was on his way to the dump.
His prices are very reasonable, paying him on Venmo has been straightforward, and I've found him easy to communicate with by text for scheduling, too.
