I was strongly considering a shoulder surgery to relieve the pain but now I’ve completely canceled the surgery because I don’t need it.“

4533 Kingwood Dr, Houston“I had an exceptional experience at the Memorial Hermann Emergency Room, and I’m deeply grateful for the care I received — especially considering I was visiting friends in Texas, far from home (Puerto Rico). Experiencing a sudden health emergency in an unfamiliar place can be very scary, but thanks to the incredible team at this facility, I felt safe, supported, and well cared for every step of the way. Everything started one night when I began feeling a sharp, persistent pain in my lower abdomen and back. I didn’t know what was going on, but the discomfort quickly became unbearable. Since I was visiting from Puerto Rico, I wasn’t familiar with local hospitals, but a friend took us to Memorial Hermann because of their reputation for fast, high-quality care — and that recommendation could not have been more accurate. From the moment I arrived, the front desk staff and security treated me with kindness, efficiency, and professionalism. I didn’t have to wait long before I was seen, which truly surprised me given that it was the ER. The whole process was smooth and well-organized. The physician who treated me, Dr. Mathew Rogers, MD, was absolutely outstanding. From the beginning, he showed compassion, professionalism, and clear communication. He explained everything to me patiently, from possible causes of my pain to the steps we would take to treat it. After several tests, it was confirmed that I had kidney stones. Dr. Rogers took the time to calm my fears, answer all my questions, and ensure I understood my diagnosis and treatment options. His ability to combine medical expertise with empathy made all the difference. He is clearly someone who loves his profession and respects his patients deeply. During my stay for observation, I was first cared for by the evening nurse, Jovanie Narvarte, who was like an angel. He was incredibly attentive, making sure I was comfortable, monitoring my vital signs closely, managing my pain, and offering a calming presence throughout the night. In such a vulnerable moment, Jovanie went beyond her professional duties — his human warmth truly touched me. When the shift changed, Nikolaus Alvarado, my day nurse, took over. Just like Jovanie, Nikolaus displayed exceptional dedication. He explained every medication he administered, offered helpful advice to manage the pain and recovery process, and was consistently attentive to my needs — both physical and emotional. You can tell he truly works with passion and care. His positive attitude and professionalism helped make the experience more manageable and less frightening. I also want to highlight the cleanliness of the facility, the organization of the staff, and the overall feeling of safety throughout the hospital. It was clear that everyone followed strict protocols and that the team was well-trained and in constant communication with one another to ensure the best possible care. In short, although it was a painful and unexpected health situation, I am incredibly grateful I was treated at Memorial Hermann. Dr. Mathew Rogers, Jovanie Narvarte, and Nikolaus Alvarado provided not only top-quality medical care but also treated me with warmth, respect, and compassion. If you ever find yourself in Texas in need of emergency medical attention, don’t think twice — this is a hospital you can trust completely. Thank you to the entire team for your dedication and for turning a difficult experience into one filled with deep appreciation. Sincerely, A grateful visitor from Puerto Rico“
