You can save some reading if you don’t want the whole story and just know that I would recommend these folks to both my Mom & my kids. If you want the details of my experience- read on: I have been a patient of New Braunfels Vision Center for just under a year now, having seen both Dr. Levar & Dr. Smith. While I initially came in for a severe corneal abrasion, due to an undiagnosed Herpes 1 infection (yes, a routine cold sore type, which I was to learn was also the leading cause of corneal blindness in the world), After months of excellent therapy to simply get my cornea to heal well enough to accept a transplant, Dr. Smith scheduled both the corneal transplant, and a lens replacement for my lens where an existing cataract’s development had accelerated dramatically as a side effect due to the hd steroids needed to treat the cornea. As I awoke from surgery and Dr. Smith spoke to me in recovery he described how technically demanding my surgery was (I have a number of complicating health conditions), as the lens had swollen causing it to adhere to the extremely delicate tissues of my iris (the colored part of my eye); and how after they had removed my cornea, he had to very delicately tease away the tissue of my iris from the capsule of my lens. (Makes me cringe to think about it) So he could extract my lens from the capsule (don’t ask), and insert the synthetic replacement lens, before then grafting on the donor cornea with the type of manual sewing skills that you wouldn’t believe a person could actually possess, but I thank the Lord every day that he did. During the time that Shadow & I have dealt with virtually every person on the Staff at NBV, I felt more like they were taking care of one of their own, a family member or a friend…. Even from Day 1, instead of what I was, just a guy walking in with a scratched up eye. However, I know now whenever my car starts to get close, and my service dog Shadow starts to get excited because she knows she will see Barbara at the Front Desk and Dr.Smith, the great techs, and everyone else there who has made us both feel so welcomed and cared for, that I will be seeing the absolute best possible eye care professionals in Central Texas. The Doctors and supporting staff that have helped bring vision back to my right eye, which before my surgery- I could only tell the difference between light and dark, and now (while stitches are still coming out throughout the next year) I can see well with a bit of astigmatism that should resolve. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 5+ Stars.
