“I took my young nephew to Oak & Steel, and our barber, Emma, was absolutely fantastic. Cutting a young kid’s hair can already be a challenge, but working with a child who has a different hair type takes real skill, patience, and understanding. Emma clearly knew exactly what she was doing and took the time to make sure his haircut came out great.

I was impressed with how well Emma worked with him. She really understands that kids don’t always sit perfectly, and instead of getting frustrated, she just rolled with it. Somehow, we made it through the entire haircut without me having to negotiate with him like I was trying to close a hostage situation, he is a picky boy.

The shop itself has a great lay out someone really spent time thinking of just about everything. The quality of each stations barber chair, and the multiple TVs throughout the shop are a brilliant idea. They had different shows playing, which kept my nephew completely locked in for most of the haircut. Honestly, anything that keeps a kid entertained while someone is operating clippers around their ears deserves some kind of award.

I also really liked the setup as I saw for the parents, there is seating running down the center of the shop with a table near each chair. This way instead of having to hover over the barber’s shoulder the entire time, people were sitting down in a very relax way and letting the barber do their thing. It’s a small detail, but it makes the whole experience much more comfortable.

Between Emma’s skill, her patience, and the thoughtful design of the shop, Oak & Steel is definitely a place I would recommend to anyone for a haircut, especially if you need someone who understands knows how to work with different hair types.“
