“Our house was elevated as part of the 2019 FEMA grant for Nassau Bay. We chose Arkitektura, hands down, over the other two elevation companies who were bidding to do the work. The entire staff at Arkitektura was a joy to work with, from start to finish. Philip, Cody, Sean, Hugo, Mike, and all the rank and file workers, thank you all so much! They are definitely the A team.<br><br>Elevation work on our house started on June 7, 2022, and progressed quickly over that summer and into the early fall. At first we were worried that we would still be vulnerable to flooding from a hurricane later that summer. But Arkitektura did really good work, really fast, and the house was up and out of danger by mid July, only six weeks after the first shovel of dirt was moved. All the work that was covered by the grant was then finished by early October, 4 months from start to finish, for the work that was covered by the grant, and we were very happy with the results. I’m told that some cracks in ceiling plaster or floor tiles are not uncommon during the elevation process, and one of our neighbors, whose house was also being elevated by Arkitektura, did experience some floor and ceiling cracks, but at our house we experienced no damage of any kind, no sticky or jammed doors or windows, and no cracks anywhere. We went up 12.5 feet.<br><br>Our advice for anyone looking to get their house elevated is to talk to others who have gotten their houses elevated, make detailed lists of what features, options and extras you want to include in your plans, and then start talking to Arkitektura early and often! Extras, beyond what is covered by the grant, can be expensive, and they will take longer than the elevation work that is covered by the grant. And not everyone has the budget to work with for the extras that we did, but Cody and Philip will be glad to sit down with you, in their office, and work through all of the design options with their 3D CAD models of your house. And then, like any major project of any kind, you need to stay on top of the work yourself. I typically talked to either Sean, Hugo, Philip, or Cody every day while the work was actively underway, in order to understand what the plan was for that day, and what was the plan for tomorrow. Frequent communication is always critical, for any major project of any kind, and we were able to avoid several hiccups and misunderstandings because we talked about it, and asked questions, before it happened. In order to get the best results, you, as the homeowner, have to be actively involved, you have to be looking ahead to what comes next, and you have to consider yourself as a key part of the team.<br><br>But the bottom line is, thank you for everything, Arkitektura! Working with you was a wonderful experience! Now we have a much larger and nicer house, and we never have to worry about flooding again!”
