About Palo Duro Canyon State Park

Palo Duro Canyon State Park is a must-visit destination in Texas, offering visitors a breathtaking and awe-inspiring experience. As the second-largest canyon in the United States, the park boasts beautiful landscapes and diverse outdoor adventures. Visitors are amazed by the sheer scale and grandeur of the canyon, which appears suddenly as they cross a river bed. The welcome center and overlook provide stunning views, setting the stage for the incredible sights to come. The park is kept very clean, from the campsites to the trails, making it a great place for families to disconnect from devices and enjoy a family hike while soaking up nature. There are lots of animal tracks to identify, and descending into the canyon reveals picture-perfect opportunities at every turn. The park offers ample options for camping, glamping, and RV lots. While the trails could use better markers, the overall experience is amazing. Visitors can explore caves, drive to the canyon's bottom, and visit the gift shop. The park's $1 per person entry fee is a steal, considering the wealth of activities and breathtaking scenery on offer. Visitors are encouraged to bring plenty of water, as the park's water is not potable, and good hiking boots for a full experience. The park features nice facilities, incredible views, and lots of easy hiking. The lighthouse trail is scenic and mostly flat until the end, where it becomes a bit of a scramble, but it is well worth it. Visitors should be prepared for a short wait in line to enter the park, especially on weekends. Whether visitors have a few hours or several days, Palo Duro Canyon State Park promises an unforgettable adventure. From the stunning natural beauty to the wealth of outdoor experiences and colorful landscapes, this destination is a true gem of the Lone Star State.
