About Prickly Pear Pet Vaccines
Prickly Pear Pet Vaccines is a small, privately-owned walk-in vaccine clinic in South Austin, specializing in basic wellness care for dogs and cats. The clinic offers heartworm testing, flea and tick preventatives, and deworming services at affordable prices. Transparency in pricing is a key feature, with clear information available online before visits, helping pet owners budget for care. While the clinic operates on a first-come, first-served basis, wait times can vary, typically around 15 to 20 minutes. Some reviews mention occasional soreness after vaccinations, but overall, clients highly recommend Prickly Pear Pet Vaccines for timely and affordable vaccine services without needing appointments. Many customers value the no-frills approach and gentle care provided by the staff, including Dr. Hilla, who is praised for her attentive handling of pets during injections. Additionally, the clinic offers a military discount and ensures the website is updated with special holiday closures, enhancing the overall experience for pet owners. Plenty of parking is available at this location, making it convenient for visits.
I want to start by saying I am incredibly grateful for Dr. Katie Hilla. She is a wonderful doctor and owner, and I truly value the care she provides. However, my experience with the front desk today was incredibly frustrating and unprofessional. I arrived early and was waiting right in front of the door before the clinic even opened. The front desk staff member was fully aware of who was there first—she even made direct eye contact with us in our vehicles when she came out to take the trash. Despite this, when the doors opened, she allowed a couple with three dogs to jump ahead of everyone who had been waiting. When I pointed out that there was a clear order of arrival, her only response was, "Well, it’s walk-in, first come, first served." Using that as a justification felt like a slap in the face. On my previous visit, the staff correctly took people in the order they arrived, so to see that protocol ignored today—especially when she saw us sitting there first—was unprofessional and rude. I even had a conversation with another gentleman waiting who confirmed I was there first. I ended up putting my pet back in the car because of how this was handled. It is a shame that such a great doctor is represented by a front desk process that feels this disorganized and disrespectful to patients' time. I hope Dr. Hilla addresses the training here, as the current front desk conduct doesn't match the quality of the medical care.
They were great with my prickly little cat.
Accepting 5 feral kittens without an appointment for vaccinations is pretty awesome ! ! Thank you Prickly Pear !
