When my mom died we got the best care I recommend them to anybody

I lost my Mom rather unexpectedly in May this year. First time losing someone so close, first time managing someone's arrangements on top of that. The way their team handled me, the logistics, the process, and the event itself day of, was incredible -competent and compassionate. In the midst of the most pain I could ever imagine and burden of getting every single detail right to do right by Mom and the family, Feldhaus made ALL the difference in the world how they treated us and Mom. My family and I firmly support this generations long family service and recommend them to anyone in the vicinity of Bedford County.

Feldhaus Memorial Chapel was great when David Feldhaus was running the facility. He wonderfully handled the funeral arrangements for both of my parents many years ago, as well as for other friends for years.
Today's Feldhaus Memorial Chapel is a different story. David Feldhaus is no longer there, and the property was recently sold to developers. I was told that the high-value Feldhaus property will soon be home to an Aldi grocery store and a gas station, and that Feldhaus Memorial Chapel is merging with Gowen-Smith in the near future.
Sigh... where to begin.... 1. There were multiple iterations getting the obituary and funeral program correct. Many, many typos and punctuation errors that had to be corrected. Little to no proofing had been done. The staff interaction was frustrating. 2. Burial clothing was provided to the facility several days beforehand. We were told that we needed to provide a long sleeve cardigan for the deceased to wear for the burial two days before the service. 3. There are yellow jacket/hornet nests in the portico eaves where people enter the building. 4. No one from the facility held the door open or greeted visitors. 5. The curtains in the main chapel have visible stains viewable from the parking lot. 6. The staff showed very little competence or interest in arranging the flowers and plants in an appealing presentation. The family had to re-arrange most of the flowers and plants. 7. The pall bearers were given no instructions on how to perform their duties before the service, or really after the service. 8. The family was given no instruction or guidance regarding family seating (spouse, children, and numerous grandchildren) ahead of the service. 9. The staff waited until visitation had already begun before placing the deceased's rings on her fingers. 10. The funeral service music started playing before everyone was seated. 11. Before the service I told the staff that the family would stop for lunch at a local restaurant after the gravesite service (but before coming back to his facility to retrieve our personal items, flowers and plants). They indicated that someone would still be at his facility when we returned. Upon returning, there was no employee at the chapel to assist us and ensure that we had everything we needed.
The funeral and graveside service itself went well, and the pastor delivered a very nice eulogy. It's just so disappointing that the once wonderful Feldhaus Memorial Chapel appears to be going downhill fast after its founder and owner, David Feldhaus retired and left his business to others to continue to run. The staff there now are more indifferent to the family's needs than David was back in the day.

Feldhaus is a small simple funeral home . They give such a warm greeting when you walk in and the experience really is wonderful . In such a hard and difficult time. When Moms Aunt passed they used them and she couldn't have looked more perfect and the funeral couldn't have went more beautifully. . Now if your looking for a huge fancy funeral home with all the Modern things life offers than I don't really think feldhaus is the place. Given the are a standard old fashioned funeral home. But it's beautifully decorated and Much room to occupany a large family.
They also have tombstones that are beautifully done and great quality. I would use them for anything especially at a dark time as a loss of a family member.

If I could give 10 stars for David and his staff I would. He was so helpful and caring during the passing of my Mom. That was absolutely the worst time of my life. He helped me through the planning of my Mom's funeral, cremation, picking up her ashes, filling necklace urns for my children and I. The book that was given at the funeral home and also the book that was sent weeks after. I would recommend them to anyone needing his services. Thank you so much! God bless him and his staff.

I was here yesterday for the funeral of a very good friend who died way too young. The service was very nice and the pastor who officiated the ceremony did a wonderful job remembering my friend (even though he'd never met him) and pointing people to the hope we have in Jesus and reuniting with our loved ones in the future if we and they have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior. It was a sad occasion, but I truly enjoyed the ceremony and I'm glad I went.

Some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet! David, Savannah and the rest of the staff are the best! Very professional! They've handled the services of a few of my loved ones, and they'll always be #1 in my book.

Feldhaus Memorial Chapel and their entire staff went above and beyond our expectations when my mom passed away. They took care of every detail. I’m so thankful for everything they did for me and my family.
