VetMed is one of the best small animal veterinary clinics I have ever used. When we moved to the Mt Juliet area, we were searching for a new small animal vet, and Dr Gables came highly recommended. He is an amazing vet. Treats the animals well, and will come in and talk frankly to the owner about what is happeningwith you pet. I would not take my dogs anywhere else.

We had a deeply disappointing experience with Dr. G that I feel is important to share. Our cat had previously been diagnosed with FIP, a serious disease. Thanks to an alternative treatment option, she had been doing well for over a year. When she showed signs of relapse, we were in the process of exploring treatment options again and needed something simple: an appetite stimulant to support her in the interim while we sought further care.

I clearly communicated to Dr. G that I understood he may not be comfortable supporting the treatment itself. I wasn’t asking for help with that. I only asked for a basic prescription to help a sick cat eat. To my surprise and dismay, he refused. His response was essentially that our cat was very sick, and he would not write the prescription.

This felt incredibly cold and dismissive, especially during a time when we were trying everything we could to support our cat who was incredibly sick and not eating. Ultimately, we found another veterinary clinic that was compassionate, helpful, and more aligned with what we needed in that critical moment. They had no issue prescribing an appetite stimulant as part of a broader care plan and even helped us with the treatment plan and sourcing her FIP drugs.

Looking back, this wasn't our only red flag. Earlier, when our cat had a case of ringworm, Dr. G even suggested that due to the potential for recurrence, euthanasia might be worth considering. Thankfully, we didn’t take that advice. The issue resolved quickly and never returned.

In contrast, over a year later now, our cat is happy, healthy, and thriving. That outcome would not have been possible if we had followed the guidance we received from Dr. G.

I want to note that Megan at the front desk was always kind and pleasant. This review is directed solely at our experience with the doctor.

I’m sharing this because pet owners deserve a vet who will provide compassion and basic support in difficult times. Unfortunately, that was not our experience here.

I went here once for a shave down for my cat, and they treated us and her so well we had to switch from our old vet to here for the kitties. Every time I have gone in they are so sweet and easy to get alone with. I absolutely love it here

They got my cat in quick! Had to get her spayed she was in and out the same day. To get me in so quick and do such a great job their price was extremely affordable highly recommended.

I would NOT recommend. Go somewhere else (although Mt. Juliet options as a whole are lacking, so good luck.) Never mind the office is horribly outdated and uncomfortable, the quality of care is outdated and uncomfortable, too. Despite Nashville being the epicenter of pet allergies (something I learned when we moved there), this vet office didn't carry allergy shots until I inquired (why am I the one introducing pet care options to the vet? shouldn't it be the other way around?). I repeatedly had difficulty following the vet's train of thought as he was describing things to me (why is nothing ever in writing? why aren't there diagrams of dog anatomy to follow along with as the barrage of information is being unloaded onto the pet parent, who is probably a little overwhelmed and definitely not as versed in medical dog talk and trying to manage the pet who HATES being there and is frantic to leave the small room?) They prescribed multiple pills to be taken multiple times per day every time anything happened, even though one-and-done antibiotic injections exist in the world. The vet techs were friendly and I believe they care about animals, but they also missed things. Just one example: we had our rescue dog's teeth cleaned and VetMed said there was no reason to do any extractions, despite our specific concerns and questions about it. Now here we are eight months later at a new vet in a new state and this same pup has to have multiple teeth pulled because they are infected and rotting, which did not just happen in the past eight months. VetMed missed it, and our pup has been suffering since then because of it. Another example of why it feels like they either don't know better or simply don't care: When our other dog crossed over, we invested in a private service to come assist with his transition at our house. Despite the service alerting VetMed, nobody from the practice reached out to acknowledge Simon's passing. Past vets have sent handwritten notes of condolence or called with their sympathies. That sealed the deal for me - this place just doesn't get it.

I called several times throughout three different days. Left messages asking to set up an appointment for my new puppy to get her shots. No one ever answered or returned my messages. Tells me everything I need to know about this place and that I definitely don’t want to entrust my dog’s well being in an office that is run so poorly.

The most fantastic and caring people work here! We have been put through the ringer in the past 6 months with two sick dogs that we've had to put down. They made sure to explain everything we needed to know about their conditions, EVERY SINGLE OPTION we had, and respected our decision always. We truly appreciate the comfort your team provided to us and our four legged babies. You guys made two very difficult days bearable. Will never leave this vet!

A close friend of mine used to work with Dr Gables, and told me she would never want to work with another vet. I switched from Banfield after many years. I got tired of the revolving door of doctors there.I made the right choice! I have an older cat that went thru a lot this past spring and she is better than ever! Dr Gables explains everything very well and makes it fun and easy to understand. He and his staff took such good care of her and my other cats!

Dr. Gables and his staff are by far the best.

My daughter and I would like to give a big thank you and hugs to Dr. Gables and the VetMed staff for the kindness and compassion they gave to our cat Princess and our family. Through a cancer diagnosis until we had to say goodbye to Princess they were helpful, kind and compassionate. I would highly recommend VetMed to anyone for their fur babies care.
