Against the Grain Studios, established in 2020, showcases a variety of locally made art, crafts, and live edge furniture. The studio is known for LALA TATTOOS, where Alana Rae Rempel specializes in post-mastectomy restorative tattoos, cover-ups, and custom detailed work. Alana also offers private and group dance lessons in several styles, with guest teachers for bellydancing, salsa, rumba, and highland dancing. Customers highly recommend Alana for her exceptional tattooing skills, creating a welcoming atmosphere, and translating their visions into beautiful tattoos. This is such a cool place! It has lots of goods by local artists, and there is something for everyone! The people working here are incredibly friendly and down to earth, and very knowledgeable about all their products. Didn’t have time unfortunately on this trip to get a tattoo piece done, but will be back again on next trip! Hope to see you again soon!
Huge shoutout to Alana, Dax and staff at Against the Grain! These two are seriously talented artists and awesome people all around. I’ve had work done by them and couldn’t be happier — they both have a great eye for detail and really take the time to make sure you’re getting what you want.
The shop has a cool vibe, super clean, relaxed, and welcoming. You can tell they love what they do and care about their clients. Every visit has been a great experience from start to finish.

I had 2 small tattoos done by Alana! Nothing went the way I expected, and by that I mean the tattoo I thought would give me grief, didn’t! Alana is thorough, makes sure it’s what you want, placed correctly and everything is sanitary. Even when the 2nd tattoo area started giving grief, she walked me through! I love how she made suggestions for steps to take the next time I get a tattoo. 5/5 would go back
