I had my first visit this week and was extremely impressed by my overall experience. My doctor spent way more time with me than I expected, and I genuinely felt he cared about working with me to improve my overall health. Most physicians seem to be rushed and don't take the time to help come up with an attainable game plan, so it was such a breath of fresh air. The front desk was great as well.
This MUSC Health facility is located on Ben Sawyer Blvd. in the former Bi-Lo shopping center. Services offered include pediatrics, family medicine, internal medicine, pediatric and adult allergy and immunology treatment. Since last year, I have had frequent appointments with Dr. Maria Streck, one of MUSC's immunologists, who fortunately for me, practices out of this convenient location. What a pleasure ... park right outside the storefront (lots of free parking) and walk right in. Check in is quick and Dr. Streck is always on time. Pre-visit check in is completed on line, prior to my visit, so review by staff is quick and easy. I've had some major and still emerging health issues over the last year and Dr. Streck has been wonderful. She is patient, supportive, compassionate and explains terms in a manner that is easy for me to understand. She quickly responds to questions I send to her through the MUSC mychart portal, unfortunately, a rarity these days. While I'm not sure where my journey will take me, Dr. Maria Streck, is a constant I can count on.
The way this place operates is inefficient and is costing patients money. I have been twice for routine/annual physicals. Both times, they tell me to get blood work done after the visit. Then, I have to schedule another visit to discuss the results. If any new diagnosis comes of it, it’s coded to insurance as a NEW office visit, which means I have to pay.Why not get the blood work done BEFORE the visit? I lost $250 for this.. just ridiculous. Although I do enjoy my doctor there, it seriously seems like they are scheming for money. Be careful…
