Very professional and compassionate on June 23rd I took my Smokey boy in with swollen tummy along with a few other things not realizing how sick my boy was. I had to make one of three choices and all of them were difficult especially #3. It was so hard not to be selfish and bring him home with me with lots of meds but not fair to him at all. I was given as much time as I needed to make a decision while also being comforted by staff and Dr. I have never nor has my fur baby been treated so well in such a terrible situation. I will highly recommend them to all! I returned on the evening of the 26th to pick up my boy that was cremated at Good Shepherd ( they are wonderful as well) and I was crying trying to ask for him and the receptionist came around and gave a big hug and condolences. That meant a lot!! Well my boy tomorrow will be a week and one of the hardest weeks I've ever had I know you see my tears still flowing hard everyday I miss you so much as your brother and sister miss you tremendously as well as grandad. We love and miss you Smokey

First of all I have to thank the team there for taking care of my baby boy. My dog jumped out of a window and broke his elbow. He has severe separation anxiety and figured that the fastest way to get to me was out the window. Lo and behold he could not fly. We rushed him to the vet, which was this one in Charleston. We are from North Carolina so we are not familiar with this Vet. They did heavily sedate him and take x-rays. They helped him remain calm and took good care of him. However, when I was able to talk to a veterinarian I was told I had two options. Repair the elbow for $10,000 or amputate it for $5000. Obviously, I opted for a third option which was not available to me. I convinced the vet to put his arm in a cast, and hope that it will heal. The veterinarian was trying to convince me that many dogs are very happy without their limbs. I wanted to ask her what recent survey she conducted asked dogs how happy they are without their limbs. I have no idea what she was talking about, but this just seemed incredibly barbaric to me. I had to pray and hope that the elbow would heal itself, despite the veterinarian telling me there was nothing else that could be done. After many hours and consulting, I convinced them to put it in a cast. They "informed" me I would have to come back every week to have the bandage changed for $400. I am not sure what kind of business these people are running here. Obviously they do God's work and I am happy that they were open during this emergency. However, in my distress, it was very shocking to hear these extreme monetary values, but also that my dog might never be able to walk again. We should just take off his leg and there is nothing else that could be done. "Regardless of what you choose he will be 'lame' for the rest of his life." "He would be in so much pain if you left it as is." Really? Would he not be in pain if we chopped his arm off or if you did surgery on it? I would just challenge and urge anyone in an emergency situation like this to assess all of their options and even come up with new ones, despite the "recommendations" of these so-called professionals. My dog made a full recovery at 8 years old. Six weeks later, and my dog is running around, playing, and doing everything he used to just like normal. I can't believe I was almost convinced to cut off his leg. I just can't believe that I was the one who gave the option to save his leg instead of these professionals. Again, I'm grateful that they were there and I would recommend them in an emergency, but be warned about your "only" options. You might risk spending an arm and a leg, or actually have to give them your dog's.

I was visiting my mom for a few weeks and her dog had stopped eating and was having digestive issues so we took her in to have her checked out. My mom's dog is 13, so already has heart issues that is being treated by Charleston Veterinary Referral Clinic so my mom knew them well. They ended up keeping her for a few days but did a total work up and determined she had an inflamed stomach lining and a lesion. Bella now takes some medication to help her stomach heal and is doing much better. I grew up in Charleston and wish we had a better like this back in the day. They were busy and have a well-earned positive reputation.
