I love this gym! The staff and equipment are really great. Nice variety of both upper and lower body weight machines. There’s rarely ever equipment that is broken. They have “Glute Builder” brand machines which are amazing! These machines are the best glute machines out there. I’m so thankful this YMCA has these!
The temperature in the free weight room is always uncomfortable. I understand it is a large area with high ceilings but it is often VERY hot. With it being so hot I sometimes feel I do not focus and push on my workouts as much as when it’s cooler. Also, I wish there were 2 sets each dumbbell weight in the free weight room. About Springfield YMCA
The Springfield YMCA is a welcoming facility with friendly staff, a clean environment, and a wide range of equipment and amenities, including a basketball court, track, gym, pool, sauna, and steam room. Since the YMCA took over the gym just before Covid, it has been cleaned, repaired, and upgraded with new machines, making it very lively now. The facility offers classes for all ages, from seniors to young children, and the aerobic classes in the exercise pool are especially helpful. The front desk staff, including Jayme, are very pleasant and create a supportive community atmosphere. The gym is busy, so visitors may need to find the best time to come. The staff is helpful, though some issues such as grime in the whirlpool or hot tub are noticed. Overall, the YMCA provides a good experience, with opportunities for fitness, classes, and CPR training, despite some minor issues like the music selection. The environment is friendly, and it’s clear that many people enjoy using the Y.
Reviews
I see that the reviews published are from 9 and ten years ago. Yes, the Hsopital system was purchased by Prospect Holdings and the whole system was neglected, including the Healthplex, as it was once named. The gym was taken over by the YMCA just before Covid struck and it was cleaned and repaired and the machines were upgraded and replaced. It is very lively now, with classes for all ages, from seniors to tiny children. I am a senior and my health insurance pays for membership. I find the aerobic type classes in the exercise pool very helpful. The staff is friendly. It can be crowded but it is a huge facility and maybe you have to learn when it is a good time for your needs. The lively use tells me that people like to use the Y.
What’s the point of having basketball courts if they are primarily used for the kids camp. The kids can go use one of your many tennis courts that are barely used and the basketball courts can be used for basketball.
