About Philadelphia Film Center
The Philadelphia Film Center, previously known as the Prince Theater, is a film-focused venue in Center City, Philadelphia. This venue has become the exclusive hub for film programming since 2019, hosting first-run and independent films, as well as a curated program. It is an ideal location for film festivals, like the Philadelphia Film Festival, thanks to its old-school charm and love for cinema. Managed by the Philadelphia Film Society, the Film Center prioritizes a superior cinema experience. It features excellent sound design, top-tier projection, and a well-maintained screen. The staff is friendly and solution-oriented, often going the extra mile for guests. While there are minor drawbacks, such as occasional unanswered phone calls or emails, improper film masking with manual side curtains, and the absence of recliners, the overall experience remains positive. Movie-goers can enjoy a mix of film classics on film and digital 4K. Some customers have noted that the popcorn quality could be improved, with reports of cold, chewy popcorn at a premium price. However, the Film Center continues to receive praise from the community for its film selection, friendly staff, and local charm. With its fantastic classic theatre setting and comfortable crushed red velvet seats, it is truly regarded as a hidden gem in Philadelphia for theater lovers.
Always showing a uniquely curated selection or films from the last 100+ years. Always clean and staff are always pleasant.
This place may lack frills such as fountain soda and cup holders but it’s really not an issue. Thankful we have such a place in Center City!
My 9 year old son and I signed up for the two day Rocky movie marathon last weekend. We came from Maryland for Rockyfest and we were super excited to see all the movies on the big screen (his first time) and I am very grateful to Philadelphia Film Society for making this possible (I bought a membership to express my gratitude). Every staff member we encountered was very friendly and helpful beginning from when I ordered the tickets online and had to call about my confirmation. Very nice size theater and sound system. My son loves Mike & Ikes so he was thrilled to see them as part of the concessions. In all respects, a great experience for both of us.
Amazing place screening a wide variety of films. A benefit to Philadelphia and surrounding communities. Can get some beers and wines inside, though don't expect a large selection, and some snacks. Really nice local feel.
