Hickory Grove Kennels
“We have a rescue Yorkshire Terrier named Baxter who has some pretty serious separation anxiety. (We are definitely his emotional support humans 😊). When I had meetings in Pittsburgh while my wife was in Maine, we were facing a total of about ten days where Baxter couldn't simply stay in a kennel in KC.
I started looking for a kennel in the Pittsburgh area where I could leave him for a couple of days without worrying that he'd be stressed, anxious, or miserable. One of my new teammates, a local dog owner with four large dogs of her own, highly recommended Hickory Grove. She spoke very highly of Cathy, her training skills, and the care she provides.
One thing to know is that dog training is Cathy's primary focus, so drop-off and pick-up times are important and should be respected. Once I was able to adjust my schedule, everything worked out perfectly.
Even though Hickory Grove is about an hour outside Pittsburgh, I am incredibly glad I made the drive. Cathy sent me a couple of updates during Baxter's stay. No, there aren't kennel cameras for us helicopter dog parents, but honestly, the updates were enough to let me know he was doing just fine.
When I picked Baxter up, he was excited to see me, as always, but he wasn't overly stressed, frantic, or extra clingy afterward. In fact, he settled right back into his normal routine. For anyone who owns an anxious dog, that's a pretty strong sign that he was comfortable, well cared for, and in good hands.
I would absolutely recommend Hickory Grove to anyone looking for a place where their dog will receive thoughtful, experienced care.”
