If you’re looking for a hair salon where the stylist’s charisma is only outshined by their shear (pun intended) talent, then Vinnie’s Hair in Portland is your holy grail. I walked in with a head of hair that looked like a raccoon had taken up residence, and left feeling like I’d just walked out of a shampoo commercial.
Vinnie, the man himself, is a hair wizard. I’m pretty sure he’s part magician—he turned my tangled mess into a masterpiece with the finesse of a sorcerer and the snip-snip speed of a caffeinated squirrel. Vinny is a great stylist and in many ways a throwback to the days when a barber was also a performance artist. In fact, his shop on Ladd Circle could be a movie set for a Cohen brothers or Wes Anderson flick. Fortunately he doesn’t charge for ambiance. Beyond all this, Vinny is a character, in the best sense of the word. You’ll get a great cut, hear some cool stories and have a good laugh or two. I mean, what more could you possibly ask for?
