About School of Rock
School of Rock Portland offers comprehensive music lessons for kids and adults, combining individual instruction in drums, bass, piano, singing, and guitar with group rehearsals. This approach helps students learn how to play together as a band and perform live at real venues in front of audiences. The school’s performance-based education, known as the School of Rock Method, promotes not only musical skills but also lifelong qualities like collaboration, teamwork, and confidence. Throughout the year, the school hosts themed camps and workshops that explore different music genres, bands, and eras, providing diverse learning experiences for students of all ages and skill levels. Many students and parents appreciate the school’s supportive environment, welcoming teachers, and well-organized lessons that foster growth and confidence. Students often excel quickly, with some starting with no prior experience and soon performing on stage. The school is seen as a great place for kids to connect with musicianship, experience real performances, and create memorable moments. Though not the most affordable, families feel the value is worth the cost, especially given potential scholarship options. Overall, School of Rock Portland is praised for its engaging programs, community atmosphere, and ability to help students develop musical skills and lifelong memories.
My son has been immersed in this musical experience for several years, progressing from drums to bass. He has been mentored by several amazing music teachers. I love how the performance based scaffolding has helped him grow as a musician and as a person. It is expensive but worth it.
This is a great school and a way for kids to connect with the world of rock and musicianship, and play in real venues! They will have a very unique and great core memory making experience!
We decided to pursue School of Rock education for our 11 year old and I’m beyond excited that we took that leap. Growing up, we never had opportunities like this in my family, so when I asked my son what kind of extracurricular activity he’d value most (if any), he quickly replied guitar. So, we found this school and I couldn’t be any happier. We value art, community, and real world experiences, all of which are met here. The staff is awesome and my son recently got to play his first live concert. My younger sons and my oldest boys (student) friends loved watching their big brother on stage. Worth every moment and penny spent. Absolutely recommend.
