We hired Bill Chamberlain to refinish our floors. It was a nightmare. I would not recommend this company to anyone. Our floor are horrible and Bill walked off the job after calling me an old man.

The Floor Doctor in Hillsboro Website : portlandfloordoctor.org Email: [email protected] William(Bill) Chamberlain Beware!! Beware We hired Bill to resurface 1100 sq ft of engineered bamboo floors, my oak table top and install addition 236 sq ft hardwood flooring in a bedroom and closet. He was never on time and he set the time, go figure. I let him know my pet peeve is people being late when they set the time. Not once did he show up on time he chose. My time is valuable also. Let start with the new flooring. Bill was not able to find our 5" flooring boards the house is only 14 yrs old and Bill stated that companies do that on purpose so you have to do a new floor in order to match. Bill found 5" 5/8 boards close to matching color. There will be a threshold between the rooms so "it won't be noticeable" Bill said. The middle of the closet has a board that has an imperfection. Why didn't he see it? Now the main room: We discussed the floors and the fact I put mop and glow on them when we first moved in not knowing I shouldn't have. The mop and glow was finally wearing off. That was the only thing wrong. Scratches, dullnes and flaking in two spots. I wanted it sanded down and varnished it's engineered hardwood and can be sanded and varnished twice in it life time. Bill didn't want to sand it all the way down to varnish. Bill stated he'd uses Bona Traffic HD a two part water base product. That would cover all the mucks and scratches left by the mop and glow. We said ok. I researched the product sounded great just what we needed. Bill brought his son to help sand the floors. It didn't seem like much sanding was done floors still had a shine on most of it. Bill came with two gallons of his Bona product. I researched and Bona recommended 1 gallon per 350-400. His covering 1100 sq ft. So that is short 350-400 sq ft. I let him know my concern he stated he has been in the busy for 20 years and it will look beautiful he has used this product and he can do it with two gallons. He did two gallons the floors were horrible (see pics) there are streaks all over. There are board pulling up on the sides (found out this is called cupping)(see pics). Bill stated it's due to the water base Produce we chose. We didn't choose he recommended. He stated we're lucking more boards didn't turn. Bill blamed the product for causing the boards to cup. I believe he added more water to the product to make it go further and it seems to be in the same line of boards. Bill used a makeshift spreader he made from foam nothing like the tools I saw on the Bona website. Bill came back put another coat of Bona Traffic Go on our floors this time he brought 4 gallons of the water based product. I was concerned he said the board are sealed now the boards won't turn and the other boards should dry out and lay down. 5 days after floor are done still some steaks and the board are still turned. Bill also attempted to put Bona on my oak table top and never completed it. It's now a nightmare(see pics). We had paid for the flooring job and the table top was only $100 so now he is not worried about finishing this project. He said he could come by next week sometime. I told him I would like my table back. We gave him additional 5 day to complete just the table top to be finished by Sunday it's been 3 weeks. Bill did show up on Sunday and a disagreement ensued and he walked off the job. You can't confront Bill said "he's the professional". I did my research as I should as a homeowner he did not like that I confronted him on amount of product he wasn't using. We were upset and Bill was disrespectful to my husband telling him to "calm down old man". Calling him an old man was not called for at all. Yes we are Senior Citizen and I believe that he tools for a ride. Bill does not like confrontation about his workmanship. I would never recommend this company or Bill Chamberlain to do any flooring for my friend and family. I feel he kind of pushed

Bill arrived at a time agreed upon to measure our kitchen oak floor and promptly provided a bid that was in the middle of the five bids we received. We set a date for the work about a month out and he arrived on time and completed the sanding/finishing in two days as agreed to. His craftsmanship is excellent -- even better than the original finishing from 30 years ago. We highly recommend Bill for his quality work, timeliness and cost of his service. C and W Stewart

Bill Chamberlin's "The Floor Doctor" refinished our bedroom floor. They arrived on time, worked steadily throughout 2 days and left the room in perfect condition. Both Bill and Jacob were easy to work with and brought a positive attitude to the job. There didn't seem to be any sanding dust anywhere! The floor and the finish are perfect. The project turned out to be smaller than originally predicted so he charged us almost way less than we had agreed to pay when we first talked about the job. We have already referred him to 2 of our close neighbors.

Hire with confidence. Our 30-year light maple floors had never been refinished, including having three dogs. The level of detail and attention TFD gave our project was impressive replacing broken heat registers and discolored boards by a door. Great value, great work. Hire with confidence.

I'm not sure if I spoke to Bill himself or not, but we scheduled a meeting with an hour arrival window and they did not show up. Called the number again, the guy was still ~5 minutes away but I had to go to work. We rescheduled for the next day again with an hour window and no show again. Bummer.

We agreed on meeting at my house at a specific time and date for an estimate and this contractor never showed up. He never explained why either.

Bill did a great job renovating and refinishing our 120 year old fir floors which required a lot of work patching in new flooring in water damaged areas including removing old tar and lead paint finishes. His price was fair and the floors looked great when done. He came back without any questions to fix a couple spots that needed another coat for no extra charge. He also gave great advice to help me in the DIY work leading up to the floor refinishing scope which helped me a great deal. I plan on using Bill for the rest of my floors as my renovation work continues. He tends to be busy so it can sometimes take a bit to get a call back but his work is solid, he is very considerate and nice to work with.Services: Install flooring

Bill did a great job at our house; the floors look beautiful. We had a couple of places that needed to be touched up afterward and he came right out to take care of them. We're super happy and didn't have to wait forever to get them done.
