Care seemed fine until patient was rushed out because of their schedule, not because he was ready to be discharged. My son went in to the ambulatory surgery center here for a thyroidectomy. The surgery was scheduled for the afternoon and the doctor said it would last about 3 hours. It turned out that because the surgery ended up being more extensive than initially believed and lasted about 5 hours, he wasn't released to the post-operative area until around 7p.m. and was still unconscious when I went back to sit with hi . Kaiser Sunnybrook Pharmacy is great. I had an unusual request--I had left some meds behind in my home in Northern California, and was trying to get a new prescription to take the medication during my stay in Portland. They spent time helping me navigate the two regional systems--even after they closed at 5:00 p.m.--and kept after my doctor's office in northern california later that evening, and again the next day. They even phoned me the next day to let me know when my prescription was ready. Bottom line: kind, patient, committed to help, and know how to make the system work for the patient (and not vice versa!).

I recently had my second Total Knee Replacement through the Sunnybrook Outpatient Surgery. The entire pre & post surgery team was great - supportive and professional.But the reason I'm writing a review, is for my surgeon, Dr James Ruf. From the pre-surgery meeting, answering all my google search questions patiently (new medications, compression stockings, etc) through to the actual surgery, he excelled. He has amazing surgical skill. My new knees work SO well, and though my recovery took focus and commitment, it was Dr Ruf who gave me new knees and a chance to get my health, and my life, really, back on track.Thank you, Dr Ruf!!
