Dr. Verg is the latter -- he's easily the best chiropractor I've ever been to, which, with my history of back pain, is saying a lot. When I first visited him (a walk-in, with no appointment), I was immediately impressed by his knowledge and kindness. Having recently moved to the area, the main reason I was going was to get traction therapy on a spinal decompression machine. His table is the best I've ever been on. However, his knowledge and intuition went beyond the basic treatment that I was expecting, and my back has never felt better. And, it cost less than I expected. I highly recommend you give him a try.
