My experience at Leonardo’s Barber Shop was extremely troubling, particularly due to how the owner treated my 11-year-old son during his haircut. My son felt so uncomfortable that he put on a fake smile in the shop to avoid hurting anyone’s feelings. Only after we left did he feel safe enough to show his true emotions, at which point he broke down in tears.
Instead of speaking to a child with patience or respect, the owner repeatedly berated him for moving his head, spoke about him rather than directly to him, and created an intimidating atmosphere. As a parent, it was clear that my child did not feel safe or respected in that environment. Not to mention the hair cut he was given was what the owner chose, not at all what my son had asked for. A hack job is what he got.
When I later contacted the owner by phone to calmly address what had happened, he became aggressive, refused to listen to any feedback, raised his voice, told me to “come and say it to his face,” referenced having cameras in the shop, and abruptly hung up the call. At no point was there any attempt at professionalism, accountability, or resolution.
In a small town like Ingersoll, customer experiences matter—especially when children are involved. Parents should be able to trust that their kids will be treated with kindness and respect. Based on our experience, I strongly advise families and community members to take their business elsewhere.
