My daughter was so happy to have gotten her hair cut and done.

Abena is wonderful! She taught me to love and nurture my natural hair. Before I came to her I did not understand it. So I have to chop off most of my hair and start again. But now my hair has flourished! I started my natural hair journey in 2011 but I have been going to her for 3 years now. She is the best!

Abena is simply the best. I have been doing a lot of self hair care, using the internet as a guide. In fact, it was through the internet that I first discovered her youtube channel. I watched many videos and participated in her Periscope broadcasts. After applying the tips she shared I found them not only useful, but effective. I am definitely a returning client. My first visit was literally the best wash n go ever. I never knew that my hair could be so defined and elongated. It's one thing to watch her videos and another to talk with her about your hair concerns/struggles and have her work with your hair. Essentially, I am learning a lot because Abena is more than a hair stylist. She takes care of your hair as if it's her own and she explains what she is doing and why. I can't recommend her enough.

Insert your favorite happy dance here.....because that is what I am doing after my experience with Abena!!!! I reached 5 years of being natural July 2017 and I have NEVER EVER been to a natural hair salon. Watching countless youtube videos and seeing all these perfect hair post on Instagram I thought, "Hey I can do that myself, I don't need help" I was so wrong. I will post pics of my hair before Abena and after. So let me talk about my experience. First, she was on time LOL years of relaxers and blowouts, its rare that the beautician is on time. Second, Abena was so kind and patient. As someone who never went to a stylist for my natural hair, I didn't know what to expect and had to relinquish my trust that she knows what to do. Third, Abena literally walked me through the ENTIRE process. After examining my hair upon arrival she talked about every product that she used, what was in the product, explained how my hair should respond, showed me how my hair was responding and educated me on composition of my hair. Additionally, she showed me the level of my split ends and did a fantastic job of shaping my curls and trimming off the bad ends. Not only is she knowledgeable about products, but also the science behind black hair care. Before going to Abena, I was that person who would try EVERY product and method out there and still never achieved the results I got with Abena. I would highly recommend watching her youtube videos. I found abena a week ago yesterday (11/11/17). I was frustrated with my hair and decided to do a porosity test (again me trying every method to understand my hair) to find out my hair moisture intake. That lead me to searching youtube for low porosity hair care, which lead me to Abena. After watching two videos I was convinced my hair needed help and booked my appointment. I can't emphasize how wonderful my hair feels and looks. I plan to continue with Abena until I feel I can do this on my own.

I LOVED my experience with Abena. She was my first experience with someone who specializing in caring for curly and coarse hair and it was nothing short of incredible. She listened to exactly what I wanted, helped explain things I never knew about my hair, and introduced me to a lot of different products that I'm quite excited to try! Detailed review below. First of all, the location of her salon is great. It's easy to get to via public transit and it is so worth the little commute out of the city. I took the Metro North train to the White Plains stop and she's located less than half a mile from the stop. Her building has a fabulous cafe in it for before or after your appointment if you - like me - have to follow the train schedule and have to come early or stay late. Now to the hair. I made it clear from the moment I walked in that I wanted the minimum amount of hair cut off. I've only had short hair in my life and have an attachment to my long locks. She listened to my concerns and offered up a number of options that she thought would work for my desired outcome. I, of course, chose just cutting off the dead ends - and she was able to do that without doing a wash or straighten first. I was so impressed. And the cut looks GREAT! Where are my tender headed ladies at? I am not exaggerating when I say that even as an adult I usually cry during hair appointments because of the pain I experience from how rough stylists are with my hair. Abena was great - she was always checking in with me. Asking if it hurt too much, if there was anything she could do to alleviate any pain I was feeling. It was just so refreshing. Proud to say I made it through tear-free. After the cut came the best smelling shampoo treatment and deep conditioning. After washing my hair in the sink, my hair was quite tangled. As I mentioned before, Abena was so willing to listen to my concerns. She started detangling with the comb and could see how painful it was for me. She listened to what I said normally works, which is a paddle brush, and she was able to switch to that for the insane detangling process. It sounds like a small thing, but I have the utmost respect for professionals who are able to both teach their clients AND learn from their clients. It was so nice to be heard and understood, instead of just being told what to do. Lastly came the styling, which Abena walked me through step by step. She told me the reasoning behind every step and detailed which product she was using. Abena even took a video of my hair with the styling step and sent it to me after my appointment. I've referenced it already while learning to style my hair on my own. You know how when you go to Disney World and you're just amazed by how the whole experience is so holistic and put together and detailed? That's what Abena's salon felt like to me. From start to finish I was impressed and welcomed and listened to. I learned I have four different textures in my hair and what products work best for each of those sections. I am just really really happy I spent the day with Abena. I'm much more confident with my own hair now and I cannot wait to go back. Please do you and yourself a favor and go. I don't typically write Yelp reviews but this was such an overwhelmingly positive experience that she is so deserving of one. Thank you, Abena!

I cannot say enough good things about Abena! I went to her for a haircut about a year ago - I followed Abena on Youtube and was looking for my first haircut since going natural. She came across as very knowledgeable and patient in all her videos - so I went for it and came away with a great experience. I haven't gone anywhere else since. I have always been very nervous about haircuts - Abena helped me feel comfortable determining the length to trim in order to alleviate all of my split ends and knotting. I have had 2 trims with Abena after my first cut, the most recent one last week, and my hair has improved so much. Every time, Abena was very gentle; she detangled and combed through all of it, determined the length she thought needed to be trimmed (less than an inch in most places), and showed it to me to make sure I was comfortable with that amount before trimming. It really helped me to feel like I was part of the process instead. Abena is also detailed in discussing my hair, from the products I'm using, to my nighttime routine, and my wash process. She even taught me several techniques in our first session that have helped me to take care of my hair while out of the salon, and explained to me why the process I was previously using was not working for me. She has helped me to find new products for my hair too. My hair is in such great condition right now, and I'm so happy with how it will look for my wedding in one month!
