I took the basic rider course to get my license which costs me $421 and that's way too much so it would be better if you buy your own bike and ask someone to teach you

The instructors I had were superior: patient, professional, knowledgeable and experienced. However, the time allotted to ‘practice’ each skill is minuscule. Learning to ride motorcycles from scratch definitely requires practice and repetition ( ie: TIME) which this ‘course’ is considerably short on. Everyone learns at different rates but the ‘course’ moves at one pace: not yet comfortable with a particular drill? Too bad, we’re moving to the next one. And remember: YOU are not getting 12 hours of actual practice in this course. A lot of the time you are watching/waiting on other people to practice each drill or listening to the instructors teaching - ie: not practicing. Solution: private lessons, something that is offered at very reasonable rates by MSS. Even if you rode a lot in your distant past, or if you are a newbie, private lessons are a tremendously smart investment; a true game changer. I strongly recommend that you DO NOT waste your time and money (and subject yourself to the stress and humiliation of falling ) on the ‘course’ if you are not already skilled in all of these drills. The instructors are excellent at refining your riding but, in my opinion, it is the rare person who can master all these skills in a 12 hour course, given the circumstances described above.

If you have never ridden a motorcycle before I highly recommend taking a few private lessons before taking the two day basic riding course. Coach Rich was an excellent instructor and I credit him for passing the skill test at the end of the second day of the basic riding course.

An amazing experience at MSS West Seneca!

Michael Peppers is an outstanding instructor and guide for anyone beginning their motorcycle journey. He’s not only extremely knowledgeable but also incredibly empathetic and patient. Michael makes sure every student truly understands the fundamentals and builds the confidence needed to ride safely. Of course, after that, there’s no substitute for real-world practice — but he gives you the perfect foundation to start strong.

Our shadow instructors, Josh and the young lady assisting (sorry, I forgot her name!), were also fantastic. They encouraged us throughout the course, offered personalized tips for each rider, and helped us improve step by step.

Wishing the entire MSS West Seneca team all the best — and to anyone looking to start motorcycling, this is definitely the place to go. Ride safe, everyone! 🏍️💨

Ali and David , amazing coaches . Made it comfortable but challenging. Was a great time and the amount I learned in two days was amazing. I would recommend some 1 on 1 coaching through the mss if your unsure about the very basics. I took one 2 hour private lesson and I was definitely more comfortable during the basic course . The coaches we had really set the tone and were extremely insightful. I never felt like I was being singled out or uncomfortable. Definitely serious and tough when needed and laid back and relaxed when needed. Keep your head up, eyes where you want to go. Most important thing I learned to help me through some of the exercises. 5 star experience ty.

Great experience here for the 2 day class, well worth the money and makes getting your motorcycle waiver so easy. We had 2 instructors and 2 shadows over the weekend and all 4 were very professional and really made the sweltering heat no big deal as they led some fun and educational classes. Lots of knowledge they had to share as well just from their experience over the years!

Since it was my first motorcycle class, I didn't really know what to expect, but looking back I can't imagine having an instructor other than Paul Selke. He was knowledgeable, amiable, and yet stern enough to teach us the skills we needed to pass the basic rider 2 course. I loved the experience. The West Seneca facility was welcoming and functional.

Highly recommended for new riders! I had 0 experience, have never even sat on a motorcycle before. I took the Motorcycling 101 course to learn the basics, Coach Rich was extremely helpful, patient, and knowledgeable. By the end of this course we were able to accelerate from a stop, perform a stop, and perform a u-turn.

A week later I took the 2 day Basic RiderCourse. Day 1 was with Coach Rob, he went above and beyond to make sure everyone was safely learning the basics of riding. By the end of this class we learned how to safely perform figure 8's, emergency stopping, and how to shift.

Day 2 was with Coach Mike, he taught us counter steering and more advanced techniques. At the end of the day was the skills test which will give you a DMV road test waiver if you pass. I was extremely nervous the entire day knowing that the skills test was coming, Coach Mike was extremely patient and thorough, he made sure to coach and train everyone and prepare them for the test. We all ended up passing!

This was the best possible experience for a beginner such as myself. If I attempted to try to learn how to safely ride on my own and take the road test there's no doubt I would've failed. These coaches made learning to ride very easy and enjoyable while stressing the importance of safety and riding within your limits the entire time.

One tip for anyone planning on signing up; follow their directions and do exactly as they say! They are there to help you and make sure everyone is safe. If you goof off or don't follow directions (leaving bike in gear when they say neutral, shutting engine off without turning key off as well, starting engine before they tell you to, etc.) they will single you out. They're not trying to make you feel bad, they're testing you to see if you can follow simple instructions to keep everyone safe.

Shout out to Coach Tim who was there for both days of the Basic RiderCourse, he was assisting and training to become a rider coach. He was very knowledgeable and helpful as well.
