“Never at the ripe old age of 39 did I think I would find myself in a position where I’m going to have to relearn how to walk. The last few months have been a wild ride that I didn’t know I got on! When switching from in-home PT to outpatient, I did a lot of research and had quite a few options. I knew a doctor who had personally gone there and recovered phenomenally, which definitely impacted my decision-making. When someone has only good things to say about a very difficult injury/recovery and the experience they had, I find that to be way more important than whatever swimming pool or other equipment they may have. I only recently started at the Dunkirk location in September 2025. It’s scary, it’s painful, but I feel that I am in the best place that I could possibly be for my recovery. I feel like the doctors as well as the staff are not only friendly but actually empathetic and listen to what you’re saying. Having positive support that is not dismissive of your symptoms and is willing to work with you and meet you where you are (but in no way babies you) is not only helpful but, I believe, pivotal for my physical and mental health during this difficult time. I so want to just be able to walk my dogs around the block, go outside and look at the moon in a starlit sky, and sit in the sun. I know these are things I can’t necessarily do at this moment, but I do feel that with the help that I am currently receiving, as slow of a recovery as this might be, I will and do have the chance to actually recover! I look forward to continuing to bust my butt trying to get better and also taking it easy, as rest is equally as important.
