About Ridgewood School of Music
The Ridgewood School of Music provides private music lessons in various neighborhoods of Brooklyn and Queens, such as Ridgewood, Bushwick, and Williamsburg. They offer instruction in many instruments like brass, woodwinds, piano, guitar, drums, voice, strings, and more, both at their Ridgewood studio and in students' homes. One customer, who had a long break from playing the trumpet, found new motivation and improvement after taking lessons with their trumpet teacher, Bobby Spellman. They praised Bobby's knowledge and ability to address specific weaknesses, helping them make significant progress in a short time. Another student shared their positive experience learning Jazz improvisation with Bobby, highlighting his unique teaching style that blends historical examples with humor and compassion. The Ridgewood School of Music is also noted for its effectiveness in helping students develop their musical skills. A young trumpet player received praise from their high school band director for improvements in skill, range, and tone after just a few months of online lessons with Bobby. Families feel that their investment in the school is valuable for their children's musical growth, making it a recommended choice for anyone looking to start or improve their musical journey.
Bobby Spellman is an incredible teacher. I do not exaggerate, I feel honoured that I have such a great teacher. I look forward to our classes all week and I really enjoy learning anything I can think of about the trumpet (and, of course - jazz).
He sets me homework that feels really fun and if I’ve struggled with anything, he normally fixes it straight away. The one thing we struggled with was some distortion that I had on higher notes. Bobby has a wealth of experience as a teacher and is incredibly kind and patient, however, more importantly...read full review

I was about 6 or 7 years in to my come back when I started lessons with Bobby, and although I was already playing the odd session my technique was really unreliable - often when I played live it literally felt like I'd forgotten how to form an embouchure.
In my first lesson Bobby showed me the right way to practice flexibility exercises and after a couple of weeks I was playing up to D above high C in exercises, and using Gs and As above the staff in improvisation with confidence. My technique is still far from perfect...read full review
The Ridgewood School of Music is amazing. I take remote trumpet lessons with Bobby and he's the best music teacher I've ever had. Bobby is patient, thoughtful, and a pleasure to work with. Lessons at Ridgewood feel both professional and relaxed. In the past I've had trouble playing in front of teachers. I'm an anxious player, usually. Not with Bobby. I can't recommend Ridgewood or Bobby enough. In fact my son is going to start lessons with Ridgewood soon. That's how strongly I recommend the school. He plays saxophone and piano. We take music seriously in our house and I'm very excited for my son to get started with Bobby's team.
