Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery

Beautiful cemetery. We went mid-week in late October while the leaves were turning. It was peaceful and lovely, and filled with tombstones from the early to mid 1800s. Well-kept grounds, intermittent parking spots throughout, and a clean single-stall unisex bathroom towards the entrance. I liked this cemetery far better than the one in Sleepy Hollow.

Just mostly wanted to say thanks to the current owners of Poughkeepsie Rural for giving my mother (and me by Facetime) a detailed tour of the grounds and showing as many available plots as possible when my father passed. We were completely unfamiliar with the process of getting a plot and the process for burial, and these folks made a patient effort to help us pick the best plot as my father did not have any preset wishes for a specific place. Additionally, the current owner was super flexible with his time to allow us enough space to make a well-informed decision, and based on what I saw on video during the burial, I am very satisfied with the plot that was decided upon....read full review

I met one of the owners of Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery at the Raymond street fair in September 2019. They had set up a table there. He gave me a ceramic coffee mug just for stopping by. I told him that I was from out of town and he teased me by asking for the mug back. The mug now sits on my wall unit next to my mug collection from all my travels. Thank you for the fine souvenir of Poughkeepsie New York.
