About Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery

Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery is a beautiful and peaceful place to visit, especially in late October when the leaves are turning. It features well-kept grounds and tombstones from the early to mid-1800s. Visitors appreciate the intermittent parking spots and a clean single-stall unisex bathroom near the entrance. The cemetery is also notable for being the resting place of MD Anandibai Joshi, the first woman doctor of modern India, inspiring many with her dedication.

Many relatives buried there. The groundskeepers do a wonderful job of maintaining the grounds.

Have about 311 ancestors buried here (so far) and find more as I continue doing my genealogy. The staff have been very helpful in locating them in the cemetery as it is a very large place.
