I'm very picky when it comes to hair cuts. Due to some not to great experiences I just trim my hair myself, and once ever couple years ill get a regretable cut at a salon. My mom had been seeing Mara for a while and convinced me to let her cut my hair... and omg it was the best haircut I have had in many years!! She listened to exactly what I wanted (lots of blended layers on my very wavy hair) and it came out perfectly, so much so I went back to her for my second and third cut. She will be the only person cutting my hair For the foreseeable future, totally worth the 90 minute commute!

I’ve been going here for several years for my twice a year step bone cut, and I love this place! The quality of both the service and the haircut is very good and consistent. I only need to go twice a year because my hair shape stays even after months without a haircut. Tomoko is very professional and I can tell that she put a lot of care to the entire process — from the shampooing to the drying — more than several other hairdressers that I tried out in NYC before I found her. She is also very friendly and kind, which is a rare find for services in NYC. Thank you, Tomoko — keep it up!

I’ve been to Tomoko a few times now but this last visit was my last. I saw Masaki and usually was pretty satisfied, but this last time maybe he was having a bad day. My layers were super uneven and tbh I’m not even sure what’s happening here. I wear my hair straight so when he blew out my hair it was curly and this wasn’t noticeable. After a wash I could tell something was off. I contacted the salon and the owner did offer to fix it for me, if I was willing to come to the west village location. I didn’t like that bc that’s a huge ask IMO. Eventually they refunded me, but said I’m never allowed to return. I ended up going somewhere else to get it fixed.

I love getting my haircuts from the stylist Masaki. He is very talented and so meticulous. The haircuts he gives me grows out beautifully. He is super detail-oriented and makes sure the cut is perfect. He is also a very respectful and sweet. I would highly recommend this salon and Masaki if you’re looking for a haircut that’s beautiful yet easy to maintain.

Tomoko is magic! My hair was so damaged from a bad experience and she was able to transform it back into something I love! The conditioning treatments, scalp massage and the hair cut completely corrected the texture and dryness! I finally feel like me again!! I could not recommend her more!!

Tomoko has completely changed my hair and scalp over the last year. Before I met Tomoko, my scalp was dry and itchy, I had dandruff all the time and my hair was falling out. After meeting Tomoko, getting a scalp facial from her and listening to her advice, my hair and scalp have done a 180. My hair is thicker than it’s been in 10+ years and my scalp is no longer an itchy mess. Forever grateful for this amazing business!

Tomoka is a talented stylist who can handle my messy thick wavy hair. Her shop is cute and comfortable exuding a calm and peaceful atmosphere. I get the step bone cut with ash gloss that darkens the gray and gives out a beautiful shine. In the Spring I do the vegan keratin treatment to keep my hair smooth in the humid summer weather. It last for months.
