About [solidcore]
[solidcore] is a business located in New York, New York that provides Pilates-inspired workouts using their unique version of a reformer, called [sweatlana]. The workouts focus on building strength, endurance, and definition in the core, upper body, and lower body through slow and controlled movements. The staff is helpful and accommodating, as demonstrated by their assistance when there were issues with booking through ClassPass. The coaches are clear in their instructions and provide form assistance. However, some customers may find the class pace too fast for their liking, and the limited variety of exercises may not suit everyone's preference. Additionally, the focus on specific parts of the body during sets, and the lack of mirroring exercises for both sides of the body, may leave some customers feeling imbalanced. The largest [solidcore] location in NYC is subterranean and can be accessed by going down a long hallway and a flight of stairs. The studio is spacious, with the locker room on one side and bathrooms and a water fountain on the other end. The machines show some wear and tear, but the instructors, such as Conor and Carly, are praised for their excellent teaching. The location runs promotions and challenges frequently and is known for being busy and lively.
I get it's probably the policy, but I think it's strange to provide a key code to let yourself into the studio when you arrive early but it doesn't work until 15 mins prior to the class, especially in the WINTER. There's also a buzzer with an intercom, but a group of us was ignored until 14 mins before the start of the class and allowed in finally. The atmosphere feels like a pilates mill / v corporate that doesn't focus on cultivating a safe and welcoming space... or clean. The reformers are not cleaned well.
I enjoyed the class itself and the instructor was great.
The lady at the check in was super helpful and accommodating. She sorted us after we had issues booking on ClassPass. The class was great, coach Emily was superb - very clear and helped with form
Not for me. Compared to other pilates type classes where you get to work out your whole body, felt like this one mostly had sets that focused on 3 parts of the body. And the instructor didn't do the exercises for both sides of the body. I prefer sets where I can do on the left side AND the right side. It makes me feel imbalanced not to have that. overall a good workout, but felt pretty fast paced and might not be good for a beginner. Low variety of exercises but high intensity. Didn't feel too friendly of a spot. Meh.
