One of the best locations in the chain. Highly recommend. This location is always clean, not very busy, and newly renovated. The equipment is not all new but has most of what you would expect, and the layout is convenient.

It is a nice gym... However, they recently changed ownership and closed their other gym nearby for a year long renovation. So now this gym is far too crowded. Pretty disappointing.

NYHRC recently announced that they're shuttering half of their locations (they are branding it as a collaboration with the gym that's buying their locations), including my favored location. Despite this, they are refusing to allow any early exits out of yearly contracts. Furthermore, because I'm on a corporate membership, they won't even credit me with 2 months of membership like they are for their regular members. It's unreal that despite clearly struggling, they continue to alienate their customers with policies like this. I am definitely going to make sure that none of my colleagues end up enrolling with this company.

The gym is clean and generally well-run with one glaring exception: the non-safety of the swimming pool. In December of last year I observed the swimming pool lifeguard listening to earphones with a towel draped over his head while on duty. I immediately spoke with the manager to report the dangerous condition and the manager indicated he would fix the problem. A few weeks later another lifeguard was leaning against the wall, so that he couldn't see half the swimming pool, and he was fixated on interacting with his cell phone instead of watching the swimmers. This greatly concerned me because swimmers in other pools have drowned while lifeguards were texting on their phones. Again I reported the incident to the manager and was told that corrective action would result. Things seemed to improve after that--the lifeguards were more attentive--until yesterday when I observed a lifeguard with an AirPod in one ear, carefully monitoring his cell phone instead of the swimmers. There should be a zero-tolerance policy for use of cell phones by lifeguards, like there is at all Y.M.C.A. of Greater New York locations. I trust the lifeguards here to keep track of who's next in line but I do NOT trust them to guard anyone's lives. It's disappointingly clear that management is not committed to training them properly.

I like this club. A trainer called Howard N blocks always the machines for +30min while speaking with his training partner. I usually see them on Monday. Makes me and other visitors very mad!

I walked in at the 23rd st. location today because my friend had recently joined the gym, was happy with it and so referred it to me. Upon arrival I asked the receptionist if I could do a trial to see if I wanted to join the gym. She had me fill out an e-form and then asked me to wait. A "Shawn" would be here to speak to me. I do not know what title or position this Shawn held, but he took me to his office, and asked me a bunch of questions which seemed really off as I had just answered them in the e-form I had just submitted minutes ago. He, in a very derogatory and cryptic manner, started making these inquiries and statements regarding my last name and where I came from, and how he had been "getting a lot of you people in the gym lately" (I don't get why that would be an issue). If my friend, who is from the same country as me, joined the gym and referred it to me and maybe a few other friends/family of hers who may or may not also be from the same country, then it makes sense that you would be having a few people from the same community visit the club during that time period. I don't understand why would that be an issue. Aren't referrals and word of mouth how people promote their businesses? Regardless, the demeaning and snide way he was speaking to me in felt like he was skeptical of me joining the gym or doing a trial because of the assumptions he was making regarding my name and what that meant about who I was or where I am from. It was disrespectful, humiliating and, to call it what it was, racially discriminatory in nature. I doubt he would think suspiciously of multiple people with the same last name like Williams visiting the health club within a period of two weeks. It was really upsetting especially because he himself as an African American man in the USA probably has had his fair share of experience with discrimination. When he was finally done, I made him show me around the club, then after the tour, right as I was about to leave, I gave him back the card and told him I wasn't interested anymore. Cause honestly, your establishment could have the best facilities, but that isn't worth anything or doesn't mean anything if your clients don't feel comfortable and respected. (I'm a south asian woman btw)

I have been a member for at least 5 years. They sent an email saying they were "collaborating" with an other health club. They basically closing their newest clubs and most interesting locations. It is so disappointing. Left are only the old and not really interesting clubs.

This gym sent me an email after 10pm July 19th informing me of a collaboration with Lifetime chain, which results in closing every location I use. Today they informed me they are holding every member to the 30 day cancellation policy, meaning they insist on charging me 8/20. They are shutting down and insisting I pay

When I first moved back to NYC, my requirements in a gym were: 1) Has a pool in multiple locations 2) Offers BollyX in their class schedule Seeing these things as well as the nice locker room amenities made me want to sign up immediately, so I opted for an all-access membership to 9 locations. It started out great, but over the past few months, I noticed a lot of issues and the quality of the gym has been in decline. Especially concerning that these problems are seen at the flagship 23rd St. location): 1) Often times are showers out of order, resulting in lines in the morning when people are trying their best to reach the office by 9 am. One time it was 6 showers under maintenance for a week or more, and for the past few weeks the same 4 showers have been out of order 2) Water bottle station, which is meant to help cut down on plastic waste was out of order for some time 3) On Tuesday (07/16/19) evening around 5 pm, there was a strange urine odor in the men's locker room 4) C.O Bigelow Products which are advertised a lot by the club don't always seem to be stocked (mouthwash dispenser doesn't work properly, the shower product dispensers will be near empty at times 5) With the new messaging around Lifetime Fitness taking over 4 of their locations (including their 23rd St location), it comes as no surprise they were struggling somewhere. Members were notified that 4 locations would be shut down (staggered approach) so that Lifetime can do renovations. It's still unclear what our options would be, but nice to see we'll get 2 months complimentary at the renovated Lifetime locations. I'll have to re-think my membership so that the new locations fit in with my office's location, but I really wish with fewer clubs under their belt, their management improves.

Love the pool, deck, hot tub. Pretty specious and lots of light. The gym is not new but that is fine by me. The bathrooms are clean - they have some sort of black warm problem in the showers but the cleaning is non stop so I guess it's fine.
