My previous accountant is headed for retirement so her partner and her have become part of Murry Josephson. All their sweet , helpful staff has been let go . I was informed nothing paper will be mailed out and every time we communicate it has to be by a password. The password is no fun creating and takes time with no patient coach to get you through . I’m now at a local
accountant with no problem printing paper . I will say Lisa Turdo has been the absolute best accountant anyone could ever ask for and her previous staff were just wonderful .
I was referred to Mark by a mediation lawyer in Brooklyn as an option for trying to finally land on a settlement with my pending divorce. Mark was helpful in discussing options and giving financial advice. However, he referred me to an advising legal lawyer who was far more helpful and did the majority of the legal work. He actually went over paperwork I sent him and thoughtfully went through possibilities and options with me. I'd already paid the deposit to Mark (the first lawyer), yet this other man did far more to move my situation along. I was overcharged for a few phone calls and 1 meeting by Mark, not to mention he increased his hourly rate without notifying me or honoring the rate at which I hired him at. Long story short, I hired him in May and it's August and I'm still not any closer to being divorced and paid him $1,500 for him to do the dance of playing lawyer without results. When I protested the final amounts, he had his assistant come out with the check and say that's all I was getting back. It left me with such a bad taste in my mouth for his professionalism and honesty. I went in with reasonable expectation and left with not a lot of respect for the guy. Sad to say, but for women going through divorces looking for advocacy and intentional work to be vested in their settlement, I would look elsewhere. Many times I'd come in for meetings prepared with all the paperwork, and Mark had no idea what I was talking about and kept looking on all 4 of his computer monitor screens to try and find my emails to him. Looking back, keep this one on a tight leash with numbers up front so you don't get surprised by the bill.
My husband and I have used the firm Murray & Josephson to assist us in the completion of our tax returns in the past. For our 2013 tax returns, we submitted all of our materials to our principal accountant, Martin Murray, well in advance of the April 14 deadline. After failing to send us a standard questionnaire inquiring about changes to our information from the previous year (notwithstanding numerous requests by us), we were assured by Mr. Murray that he had all necessary information to complete our tax returns. We received some follow up inquiries from someone whom I assume was his assistant which were particularly concerning. She had the name of my husband's employer incorrect and she generally seemed to have little understanding of our financial situation. During this time, we did not get a single call or email from Mr. Murray. After weeks of silence, WE RECEIVED OUR RETURNS AT 1:45 a.m. THE MORNING THEY WERE DUE stating that we owed over $30,000 in taxes. There was NO communication regarding the fact that this year's tax bill was excessively higher than the previous years and NO warning prior to the date the taxes were due from Mr. Murray that we may want to file an extension to further investigate the cause of this liability. We immediately called him and he responded BY EMAIL (DIDN'T EVEN HAVE THE COURTESY TO CALL) to state that he had been out sick with health problems and apologized for the lack of communication but assured us that "his team" had completed the return accurately. We had no faith whatsoever that this was the case especially in light of the fact that we received the return at 1:45 a.m. the morning the return was due, the questions asked by his team and the fact that he clearly was not overseeing the process as he was out ill. As a result, we were forced to hire a new accountant, file an extension and pay late fees to the IRS to ensure that the return that we were filing was prepared accurately and thoughtfully. They even have the nerve to keep harassing to pay them for their "services"!!!!! DO NOT USE THIS FIRM!!!!
