I am a returning senior student who studied with Nick Russo over twenty years ago, as did my then teenage son. Then and now, Nick has been a knowledgeable and generous teacher. He is enthusiastic, encouraging, and patient. They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks but Nick is certainly teaching me some.
Since I have been playing guitar for almost 60 years, technique is not our main focus. What Nick has been helping me develop and improve is my ear. Nick Russo loves music and he shares that passion for sounds with my son Mico, who has been his guitar student for a few years now. Nick’s emphasis on learning and practicing scales has helped Mico to improve his focus and technique. We also appreciate how much Nick has encouraged Mico to perform live and with other musicians. Nick’s belief in Mico’s ability to learn and improve is great to see and very encouraging. We are delighted to have Nick Russo as Mico’s guitar instructor.
I can’t say enough about how gifted a teacher Nick Russo is. Having taught college students myself for 30 plus years, I appreciate how challenging it can be to tailor lessons to individuals who come to a class or school with varied backgrounds and expectations. Nick is a master at what I believe is the most important aspect of teaching any subject, and that is reaching students where they are. I am a great example of this, having begun these lessons late in life with no musical background. Nick has encouraged me to follow my interests, which is my case is the Blues.
