I asked Reddit for a place where I can have my duffel bag repaired. Thanks to one of the Redditor who suggested me to check on this place. Yesterday at noontime I visited and Avner welcomed me to his shop while working on a shoes for a lady. He checked my bag and access, he immediately told me that it can't be repaired on that day because his craftsmen who specialises on these is not around. I taught it was an easy fix but he explained to me the intricate details. I appreciate his honesty and sincerity to give me a good service. For a good price my duffel bag looks brand new. I'd seen this storefront as I walked home from the 61st St train station for over a year, and originally thought it was a thrift store. (There is often a rather haphazard rack of used leather bags and shoes in front of the store.) I needed a zipper replaced on my synthetic Tumi backpack, and after an exhaustive search on Google and Yelp I thought I'd just walk in and ask if they offered that service. The place is packed floor to ceiling with leather repair items and what appears to be about 100 years of repaired items which were never picked up! The older man who I talked to was in the middle of a job but told me that he can replace backpack zippers no problem, and to bring it in for an estimate. (No up-front pricing.) But he did a perfect job replacing my double zipper for $35 with just 24 hour turnaround. He asked for a 50% deposit, which I thought was totally fair. Don't be dissuaded by the lack of curb appeal!
