OG korean barber with expert scissor skills. I have been going to this gentleman for a number of years and always come out looking sharp. Hope the guy is around for another decade at least although he may be retiring soon considering his age (80+)
This is not so much a business review, but more about a long term relationship. Mr Um has been cutting mine and my son's hair since he was little and is now going on 15 years. Mr Um has had to move his business twice, once to Northern Blvd where he joined up with another shop and now at his current location. I thought we had lost track of him, but to our surprise last year, we received a text saying he was reopening on 41st Ave. Mr Um is a quiet man that speaks scattered English and we speak very little Korean, but we've had this long lasting customer relationship. When his shop was on Cherry Ave, he had a business partner, Mr Kim, that was as jovial as Mr Um is stoic. We lived through Mr Kim's battle with leukemia, joyful at his recovery and sadly at his passing. My son always wanted Mr Kim to cut his hair. Mr Um is a model Asian man, likes to woodwork making contraptions to use in the shop and has asked us to translate signs he would put up for his Chinese customers. Mr Um is a classic barber, though using electric clippers, does all his fine work with scissors and finishing off with the straight razor. The best thing about getting a haircut here is to catch up on all the lad mags like Maxim, FHM, Woodworking & Popular Science. We hope to be customers here for years to come.
