“Dating from 1871, this old, but still very active cemetery is expansive and as with many, if not most, cemeteries that are a century or more in age, many monuments are neglected because family have all died off and/or moved away. The natural effects of pollution, mold, lichen and other growth on many markers are hard to see, wishing there was time to clean them all. I had sent in an email ahead of time and in just 24 hours had a reply with helpful images and descriptions to finding the family markers I’d never visited previously. I did successfully clean and reset a family monument (WWI veteran marker from 1933). If you live nearby an older cemetery somewhere, consider dropping in and adopting a marker or two for cleaning, even if no relation. Something I often do and encourage others to do. It’s somebody’s family after all.“
