I am devastated to share our recent experience with Commack Animal Hospital, a place we had trusted for 20 years. We brought our 3-year-old dog in for a routine checkup and were assigned a doctor we had never seen before, not our regular vet. This new doctor and staff caused our dog such distress that she suffered a panic attack. During this appointment, they also muffled her with their hands over her mouth and took her in the back for another routine test. When she came back, her lips started to turn blue. This escalated into a heat stroke. We had to rush her to an emergency vet, but tragically, she passed away at 2 am in front of my kids. To make matters worse, the manager did not contact us until 5 pm the next day. When they finally did, they had the audacity to blame us for our dog's death. The quality of care has significantly declined since VCA took over. I strongly urge anyone considering this place to stay away. Our beloved pet might still be with us if we had gone elsewhere.

Been going to this hospital for 20 YEARS. Gary Koslow sold the hospital to VCA and immediately the prices went up and continued going up twice a year. After 20 years of bringing all my dogs there I questioned a bill and was told by Wendy, the office manager, not to come back. After 20 years! She complained that they have gone over and above to care for my dog! Umm, they're a healthcare facility. Isn't that what they're supposed to do? I contacted VCA corporate and got no response! They send you surveys after your visit, but I doubt they ever read them. Their exam fees are outrageously high. $116 for an exam and every other animal hospital in the area is $90-$95. You have to wipe off the exam surfaces yourself because they are always full of hair or blood. The waiting room stinks from cigarettes because the front desk ladies go out to smoke and bring that stench back into the waiting room. One of them pet my dog and I had to bathe him when I got home because he stunk from cigarettes. That is unacceptable. The front desk people don't smile. They act like you're bothering them. They will not see you in an emergency. They tell you to go somewhere else. The doctors are okay. Dr Pettit is wonderful, but you have to wait two weeks to get an appointment with her. I have a special needs dog for whom she has cared for 13 years so we were left without continuity of care. I reached out to Dr Pettit as well, but got no response! Obviously, I had to find another veterinarian who could provide the quality of care that my dog requires. I'm happy to say that I was able to find an excellent doctor who is so knowledgeable and more thorough than I could have hoped for. Her prices are much more reasonable and the front desk staff actually welcomes you and smiles! I wish I had made this move sooner. If you're using or thinking about using Commack Animal Hospital, you can do better at any other hospital. Do your homework!

I have been going here for 18 years. Dr petite is amazing but I can never get an appointment or a call back. Not her fault. Been trying to schedule an ultrasound and was told the manager was not in and would call me back. Its been 10 days. No call. My dog wont eat. They dont take emergency same day appointments. Ive had to go to the ER with my dog twice now. Looking for a new vet hospital. Very frustrating.

I have been taking my cats to Commack Animal Hospital since 2018. We moved and I would never go anywhere else. The staff is so caring. Yesterday I had an emergency and they were able to squeeze me in because someone cancelled. I was relieved I did not have to go the the ER with my cat. Although the doctor we loved left the group, the doctors there are all great. We saw Dr.Snipes and she was wonderful with my anxious 2 year old cat. Highly recommend!

PLEASE GO TO ANOTHER VET!!! I have been a client of Commack Animal Hospital for years and they were NOT THERE WHEN I NEEDED THEM! My 15 year old dog was having trouble breathing and they would not see him! As a devoted dog mom I must warn you, please pick a vet that will be there for you not just for yearly visits, but when things go wrong. They did not prioritize a pets life over keeping a schedule please keep that in mind.

Avoid, There is a reason Koslow left. Been taking my pets there for 18 years. So when I call and say one of my pets is on deaths door and they tell me they cant see him for over two weeks something is wrong. NEVER use a vet who will refuse to see an established patient in a life and death emergency .

Called for emergency with my dog around 6 pm. Receptionist took detailed information and stated Dr. would call me asap. Called back at 7 pm and find out office closed. Website states closes at 8 pm. Been taking my dog here for close to 4 years and found services to be ok BUT never had an emergency situation before. I still have NOT had the courtesy of a call back. I find the lack of concern and response unprofessional and believe it's time to find a new Vet. Took dog to emergency vet and was treated with utmost concern and care for my dog.

Been using this practice for many years. Noticed things were changing, but continued to take our Golden Doodle there, since he basically was healthy and went for annual well visits .He had just been there for annual checkup and bloodwork, a little over a week ago. A text message said results were normal. Yesterday, he woke me at 5AM. I thought he just wanted to go out and let him out. I noticed some bleeding and a raised area under his eye. I called the office at 8AM and was able to get an appointment for 2:20 in afternoon. The front desk and staff have always been very nice. Suddenly, the bleeding became worse and pup looked in distress. I called back the office and explained that I thought he needed to be seen right away. I was quite surprised that they said they couldn't accommodate due to only one Dr. in. Took him to emergency vet instead. They were able to address his fever, abscess and pain. Now need to find another vet. It is disheartening after so many years and truly happy with care, that a pet in distress could not get help. I know times have changed, but it would be a good thing to warn people that you do not take pets in emergencies, during normal business hours. It truly saddens me to have to start over somewhere else. Difficult to give rating since for years we received good care. Just think policy should be to inform clients that you do not offer care in emergencies. Your office did save my previous pets life years ago. It also was an emergency. She was not expected to survive and did. I was grateful for that. Maybe this is the case for all vet practices now. Definitely an important thing to tell clients so they don't waste time calling the office.

Went there again for my dogs skin allergy and red red rash not getting better as the other time we understood waiting in the car a few minutes ... but when we got there again and called the rude receptionist said it was about 45 minutes and they had no time to call any one to let them know .. ok we left and came back ... moving forward tofeb 22nd. 6:15 appt for our dog once again who clearly is still having the same issue $$$ later and we call again the receptionist tells us a 45 minute wait again .. Now I have my toddler in the car w me who I clearly can't wait that long with him which is unfair for him to sit that long as well .. we leave I called 4 times and left 4 messages to speak with a manager Stephanie .. it's now March 2nd not one phone call back .. they are quick to take your money up front ... problem still not resolved with my dog nor did any of the girls give a hoot other than Dorothy who's very kind when I called about my dog .. I loved the drs. there but if their staff is that insensitive or their manager to give a call back and give a damn about your pets well being , then this isn't the place for you or your pet .. I get its covid but no need to be this unorganized with scheduling any pets appointments repeatedly And not even call back your patient of a few years ..Ridiculous
