We thought our Labrador Retriever swallowed an engagement ring. She has a habit of eating things she shouldn’t and East End is always there for us. They were calm and professional (and calmed us down, too.) We found the ring later after the vet assured us it wasn’t inside our dog. The cat had swatted it off the sink counter and it was hidden inside a bag! We appreciate everyone at East End.

I am not someone who typically leaves negative reviews, but I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience at this emergency animal hospital.

I had an appointment scheduled with my primary veterinarian for Monday, February 18. However, by Saturday evening my cat was lethargic and had not eaten in two days, so I made the decision to seek emergency care. East End Veterinary is conveniently located, which is why I chose to bring her there.

Unfortunately, this will likely be my last visit to this facility.

I understand that emergency veterinary care is more expensive, and I am willing to pay for quality care when my pet needs it. However, after spending approximately $1,100, we left with no answers and were essentially told that “everything would be cheaper at your primary vet.” While that may be true, it is extremely frustrating to spend that amount of money and still have no idea what could be wrong with your pet.

Bloodwork was performed, but we were told that some of my cat’s levels were too elevated for their in-house machine to read, and that the samples would need to be sent to an outside lab. We were told we would receive a call the following day (Sunday) with more information. That call never came, and when I followed up myself, the doctor we had seen was not there. I spoke with a different doctor who was unable to provide any additional clarity and told us that if we wanted full lab results, we would need to pay extra to send the bloodwork out. This was not the impression we were given during our visit.

Ultimately, my cat was given anti-nausea medication and fluids and we were told to follow up with our primary veterinarian. We then had to spend an additional $1,000 with our regular vet to continue diagnostics and determine what was actually wrong.

I fully understand that emergency clinics serve an important role, but for the cost, I expected clearer communication, better follow-through, and more transparency regarding testing and fees.

For example, while my cat was there, we asked if her nails could be trimmed. The cost was not disclosed beforehand, and we were later charged $55 for a nail trim. Situations like this add to the overall frustration when you are already dealing with an emergency.

As someone who previously worked in veterinary medicine, I understand the costs and challenges involved in providing care. That is why this experience was especially disappointing. My biggest concern was that when their machine could not read the elevated levels, sending the bloodwork to an outside lab was treated as an additional charge rather than a necessary continuation of diagnostics, and this was not communicated clearly.

OH, and to boot — I have asked numerous times for copies of the bloodwork and they have never been sent. They have a patient portal but the only thing you can view in there is your bill, of course.

When your pet is sick, you are vulnerable and trusting that you will receive answers and guidance. Unfortunately, that was not our experience here.

I would recommend pet owners carefully consider their options when seeking emergency care.

Staff were polite and informative. All the vets are just fantastic. The tech love each animal that comes in. There passion for helping each furry friend is there.

Excellent compassionate, professional care. Dr. Michael Larkin recommended a procedure to relieve our Portuguese Water Dog from chronic infections and irritations. Right after her surgery, there was immediate relief from symptoms she had been suffering from for years. Both doggie and parents were ecstatic to see the immediate difference ! He checked in step by step to ensure she was recovering well. 5 waggy tails!

Friendly and professional staff who provided excellent care for my cat during his bladder obstruction treatment. Great communication, thorough explanations, and genuine compassion throughout the entire process. Highly recommend. Will come again

I would not go anywhere else with an emergency for one of my fur babies! Always the best care and wonderful staff that makes you feel at ease. My Daisy girl was treated with such love and care. Cannot thank them enough.

Let me just start off with saying this place saved my dogs life and I will be forever grateful for the care and quality of service from Dr Larkin and his team. My dog broke his leg severely over a holiday weekend and I honestly thought that was it. East end was able to see him with a specialist the next morning and Dr Larkin put all my fears to bed that morning. He assured me he could fix my dogs leg and keep him happy and healthy. He did exact that, by explaining to me he’s need some major surgery and recovery time. Within 24 hours of that appointment my dog was already in surgery and all fixed up. I then began the recovery which involved weekly appointments to east end where my dog, who is not the friendliest guy, was cared for with so much love and care from the team there for wound changes, and check ups. You cannot put a price of family which is what my dog is. He was treated as such. Never hesitate to bring your pet here it will be in the best hands! Thank you so much again for everything!
