    I typically dont post reviews but I have to stress some issues that have been getting worse. I was allowing some time but not seeing any improvement for several months now and tonight was the icing on the cake.Without getting too gross, I nearly vomited going into the men's room urinals. The odor of urine was so pronounced I had to walk out. I've noticed the bathrooms haven't been truly cleaned in weeks. Same stains I've always seen for a while now on the porcelain. Clearly not being handled. I had to mention something to the 2 young guys working behind the counter as I was walking out and one said "I just poured bleach into both urinals an hour ago" Well they were clearly still full of urine when he did that. That mixture he just made polluted the entire men's bathroom. I'm at home an hour later still nauseated from breathing that stench in. I could have taken a pic but that's really pushing the envelope to post. Properly CLEAN THE BATHROOM! Sinks are gross! Scared to even touch. No soap in the dispenser and no paper towels in either of the dispensers as well.I can deal with the folks that think their Mr. Olympia contenders that don't rack their weights when done with the machines and even the young workers that start to power off everything 10 minutes before closing including the lights while your still working out.. This bathroom situation has to be taken care. It's disgusting.**Update** - Thank you for addressing the matter.

    I’ve been enjoying going to Rockaway Retro Fitness. Staff is courteous, environment is clean and hours are accommodating.

    People behind desk are miserable, especially on weekends. Called to confirm close time on Sunday (5:00) and miserable person behind desk tells me "in 10 mins". This was at 4:30. Also, 8 outta 10 times people on phones at the desk and barely look up. I'd give 0 stars if I could, but I'll give them the one star for this location strictly on the fact that they have a Maximum Health and Wellness center located inside (if I was grading MHW separately, I'd give them 5 stars for the services and staff). Dr George, Aristides and Chris are the best!

    I have waited 4 months to leave this review because I have futilely hoped that things would be resolved. However, my (and others) complaints have fallen on deaf ears.Retro has 18 treadmills - one of the main reasons that i chose this gym. Currently, only 4-6 function at all. I have spoken to the front desk 3 times now and have gotten the runaround on when a 'technician' is going to come look at them. It's been 4 months.This is unacceptable.If you want to lift free weights, this place is fine. The machines are ok, although one I like to use has been out of service for 2 weeks and I'm not holding my breath.If you want treadmills, look elsewhere.

    Update: 2 weeks later here we go again. Checked fb and Instagram and I didn't see any posts. If you are not going to adhere to the posted hours, change them and find employees who are willing to actually show up. This will be posted on all review sites, yelp,Google etc. Corporate has been informed and time to look at other gyms time yo draft that letter since I signed up in 2016 and my contract had been fulfilled

    Avery T. I appreciate the response to my previous review. Let's try to provide a 1 star experience before we jump to 5. Since my review, I have stopped by the gym 3 times and sent 2 emails to management (which shockingly went unanswered) to end my membership. I was told I cannot end it in person. So 2 plus weeks after leaving the gym my credit card is still being charged; twice actually. First a monthly fee then the yearly upkeep. Was my handwritten note delivered physically or my 2 emails terminating my membership not enough?!?! Please advise on how to correct this. I am not the only review to state your place continues to charge members after they leave

    Debbie S. Dover, NJ 1113 8/1/2022 It seems like every other week on a Sunday morning Retro employees decide to pull a no show. The excuse a few weeks was "there was a emergency" and it was "supossidly" posted on social media sites to give a heads up. Well yesterday 7/31 again a no show at 7am. The weekend hours area 7am open time. If they cannot adhere to the hours change them and hire employees who give a crap. Retro was good in the beginning when I joined i n2016, now most of the cardio machines are non functioning, weights are all over the place or missing, the place is not clean (showers are nasty) and the staff is not existant (phones are more important). Time to research other gyms and write that letter. I have fufilled my contract and I am sure I will be given a hard time when I quit and all inquiries will be ignored

    I sent three emails and left 2 messages for the manager until I was finally able to cancel my membership. This took weeks to resolve and on top of it he had an attitude. All the other staff are nice and equipment was great but terrible communication. Also asked to freeze my account and asked for confirmation that I would not be charged anything going forward. They confirmed I would not be charged anything yet a few months later I was charged an annual fee.
