First trip to Virile in Englewood was stellar. The shop is an excellent throwback to what you envisioned a barbershop to be when your grandfather threw dice in the alley as a kid. It’s an experience for the senses from the smells of the aftershaves, to the sounds of the clippers, to the sights of nostalgic memorabilia on the walls. Don’t plan on being there for 10 minutes, stay and disappear for an hour there. Matt, Chris, and Alex were all great at explaining what they’re doing and making sure that you’re comfortable. First ever straight-razor head shave was just as relaxing as you’d hope it’d be. They’re all artists putting on a really great show in cool environment. Will be going back again and highly recommend.
I have been going to Virile (in both Jersey City locations) for years now. Each time, I'm welcomed warmly and offered a drink. The place is always clean, the staff friendly, and the barbers skillful. I am always impressed by how busy it is, so I always make sure to schedule my appointments around a month out. Andre is my go-to and one of the master barbers, so I know his schedule fills up fast. The quality of the haircut is top notch and I always appreciate the clean, slick, straight razor shave whenever I'm there to trim my beard. I've been recommending this place to everyone I can because I think the whole place is top-notch. It's even more fun if you can get there when Chunk, the barbershop dog, is holding court. He's a hoot.
