As I’ve written in my well-reviewed book, “Brooklyn NY: A Grim Retrospective,” my mom, my brother and I grew up poor, on welfare and food stamps and often without heat or hot water. Fortunately, I somehow pulled myself up and out of poverty. Why do I mention this? Because I just want to be warm during the New Jersey winters. Please! Help! Somebody! Over the last two years, I've hired literally dozens of all different kinds of contractors as I’ve recently done major renovations in my new home. All of them were initially very nice, polite, enthusiastic and attentive. That said, many changed their tune after they had made the sale or service, becoming less responsive and caring. Of course there are great contactors in all skill sets out there, but it’s been hit or miss for me. In regard to the HVAC contractors, I found that many had overstated their experience and training, especially with the newer, advanced, board driven heat pump invertors and furnaces like Bosch. Wiring is so very important for these units to operate efficiently. I’ve been building, and continue to build, my own high-end computers for the last thirty years so I’m acutely aware of board integration. My Bosch furnace board, the inverter board and the thermostat (be it proprietary or third party), need to all talk to each other correctly. Sadly I, as well as literally hundreds of customers across the country that I’ve read about online over my last six months of trying to get my system to work properly, have been too often sold oversized systems that are set up to simply “turn on” but are ultimately not tweaked correctly. This negates any energy savings or superior comfort that you've paid a premium price for. My initial contractor who I bought the system from, left me with gas leaks that I found on my own, low gas pressure, no staging, humidifier problems, miswiring and a slew of other issues I’ll not bore you with here. I’ve been so disappointed to have had to spend an additional $3,000 to a total of four, yes four, additional contractors after the initial contractor charged me $17,000.00 and I still didn’t have a fully functional system. I’ve spent 6 months since the installation, reading, studying and watching You Tube videos, as well as speaking to Bosch Tech support (who prefer to speak to contractors that are on site while they are actually working on the equipment), and not to homeowners. To say I’ve been caught in a nightmare is an understatement. Hundreds of hours wasted by me typing notes and still no success. Until I found Mighty Ducts. I read some of the positive online reviews and called them. My call was answered by a friendly and upbeat woman named Errika (that's the spelling). She sent a tech name Nick who was on time, communicative and understood my problems, and most of all, knew the Bosch systems as they work differently from the average heat pump/furnaces in some ways. I think that because this company is made up of a younger group of people and the owners obviously invested in the training on these newer systems, that this sets them apart. I can also see by a post where they were soliciting additional employees and describing benefits and perks, that they take care of their employees, which to their benefit will allow them to retain solid, long term, reliable workers. In conclusion, yes, I’ve learned a lot about HVAC and my particular system and feel confident that I have a great company servicing me, but I regret that it took six months of my life devoting so much time to troubleshooting. Thank you, Mighty Ducts.
