From SEAS Bergen Chapter
SEAS Bergen Chapter is a sailing school, as well as a club for those who like to volunteer their skills to teach others, as well as sail on our larger boats. We run basic sailing classes from June through August, and keelboat instruction on demand. Check our website for class dates and online registration details.
SEAS Bergen is one of four chapters of the Society for the Education of American Sailors, established in 1977 with the goal of providing low cost sailing education, with an emphasis on safety.
Our water sites include Monksville Reservoir, Greenwood Lake, and Haverstraw on the Hudson River. Classroom instruction is usually in Hawthorne, NJ, but may be online or at the water site depending on the current COVID situation.
I found SEAS Bergen over 10 years ago, when my girlfriend (now my wife) got me a membership for my birthday. I've been sailing since I was young, but was happy to improve my skills, get certified on the 27' Catalina berthed in Haverstraw, and help teach basic sailing. I highly recommend the organization to anyone interested in learning to sail, upgrading your skills, participating in international bareboat cruises, and socializing with other sailors.
