Gift shop , vintage shop, and book shop are all charming - book shop owner is particularly welcoming. Entire property is relaxing to browse. Just beautiful.
Editing to add: Based on the owner's response, that the cafe is a separate business, we've upped the stars. It's a lovely property to visit. That being said, the same could be said for most of the other shops on site...and the positive reviews for those were well received. Leaving the comments regarding the cafe in place as anyone visiting the property would find it hard to delineate where the cafe (or, indeed, the book shop, vintage shop, or gift shop ) ends and the gardens begin. To the visitor, this appears to be one, inspired, business.
The cafe is a bit of a crash and burn. This was our second visit. On the first, the service was haphazard and slow, but the young man was such a charming goober, telling us about going off to college, that the lengthy wait for incorrect orders didn't ruin our day. Today we asked if there was service outside, and the wait staff showed us to a table. We received a table set up, but no offer for a drink order .... and then were promptly forgotten. Just a couple of coffees would have held us over, but nope. About the time we were wondering if we should just go inside, another table - younger women with a stroller - got seated nearby. And immediately had their order taken. So...not us? Have to wonder if not being a traditional couple bumped us down the priority list. Mebbe the wait staff was just overwhelmed - but if that were true, then a little communication (and some coffee) would have made all the difference. Anyway, we won't try again. Which is a shame, as the presence of a cafe is part of the appeal for us.”
