I discovered a small piece of rot fall from the upper frame of my sliding door that leads to a patio, and above which a balcony deck is attached. It was unclear the extent of the rot but it was obvious it needed attention. The cause turned out to be flashing under the balcony deck improperly installed 34 years ago. I was advised to get someone really experienced and skilled to look at it and to deal with it. The header supporting the upper two floors of my house was potentially at risk.
