“Leaving this review on behalf of my partner. We attended a concert last fall, and she saw a shirt at the merch table of a band we’d just discovered. She really liked the design, but the only one left in her size was the display model. Thinking it would be fine, she went ahead and got it. When we got home, though, she realized that there were holes all over it—presumably from them pinning it to the display wall a few dozen times.
She really loved the shirt but didn’t want to wear it with so many holes. So we went out in search of a tailor who could answer a sort of weird request. What she was hoping was that crosses or “X”s or something could be sown across all the holes and, hey, it’s a metal band so maybe people would just assume it was meant to be that way.
The first tailor we took it to didn’t even let her finish her sentence before she turned us away. When we went to try out Magdalen’s, though, it was a completely different story. The woman there not only let my partner explain what she was trying to do, but she also talked through the problem with us for a whole 15-20 minutes to find a more workable solution.
She ended up counting up 30-something separate holes that were in a sorts of places and not very symmetrical in their positions. She suggested that it probably wouldn’t look very good if she did it the way we wanted. She then began showing us some options with different materials and showing how they could be sown into the shirt to cover the holes. We eventually decided the black lace could look pretty good. She quoted us a reasonable price and asked us when we wanted to pick it up. So we planned to come back a week later.
Even after all that, my partner was still worried it might not turn out like she was hoping. When we picked it up today, though, both of us were blown away. It looks even more awesome than the original design. We could not have asked for a better job. Just—wow. If it were in my size, I’d totally steal it, lol.
So, yeah, I highly recommend Magdalen’s. The consultative service and the expert craftsmanship is top notch. I will definitely be taking anything else that needs repaired or enhanced there in the future. After this experience, I’m not sure anyone else could compare.“
