You cannot find a better home inspector than Mark Pierce. I challenge you! Here are the qualities that best define Mark Pierce’s work as a home inspector: Integrity, Strong Work Ethic, Knowledgeable, Relatable, and Professional. I hired Mark after researching 4 people for home inspections. We are a family of 7 with 5 kids under 10, and we were looking at a house that was built in the 1850’s. I know very little about home building and while our bank didn’t require an inspection, we needed to know the risks we were about to absorb. Mark was professional when he answered the phone. He told me all of his credentials and assured me had all the recommended insurance coverage. He wasn’t pushy (one person called me 6 times in 2 hours). He answered all my questions thoughtfully and genuinely (one person had an assistant who keep pressuring me to schedule an appointment before I even had a chance to speak with the person who would be doing the inspection). He even encouraged me to follow him around for the inspection (One person became indignant that I even asked if he had experience with old homes. He told me he had been in the construction business for 30 years, and all inspections are basically the same. Then he wanted to know if I was from NY. Why does that matter? I’m from his local area in NC, lol). I asked all 3 people to send me a quote of my house and a sample of a recent inspection they had completed (I didn’t ask the guy who doesn’t seem to care for New Yorkers). I will not go into prices here, but Mark’s rate was the best. And as an added bonus all the pictures in his report had arrows pointing the problem issues. This means that those of us who don’t know construction lingo will, at least, know what he is referring to. Mark seemed like the easy choice. Admittedly, we were a little nervous, that he was priced less than others, but I have learned, that paying more, doesn’t mean you get more. Then came the real test. The day of the inspection. Mark showed up at 9am sharp and started right away. Mind you, he told me to expect the inspection to go 3-4 hours. Let me pause right here and say that I do leadership trainings for a living. I teach people how to run a quality business and lead others to do the same. In all my years, I have only met a handful of other people as dedicated to their work as Mark. Mark was incredibly thorough and explained everything he saw that was an issue. And he did so in a way that I could understand. He pointed to everything and waved for me to get down and see for myself. He was patient with every question that I asked, although I didn’t ask many, because he explained so much. 2 hours after he began, we went inside. Mind you the house is 2,700 square feet, and on 2 levels. He went through the house inch by inch, and there wasn’t an accessible area that he didn’t touch, test, and inspect. He explained how old houses were built and one time, he even came across one issue that he hadn’t experienced before, I mean the house is 170 year old, and there weren’t codes back then, so people just did what they wanted, I guess. Mark sent a picture to a collogue and got me an answer right away about how it worked. Fortunately for me, it is a solid design. After 6.5 hours of fairly intense and consistent labor, Mark finished. He was in the house, under the house, over the house, and on the house. I cannot recommend Mark enough. When he was done, he gladly shook my hand and went on promising to send my report in a few days. I am sure it will be a long report. But, for the sake and safety of my family, I know it will be the right report. I’ll update once I get it. I know this is only a review, and you don’t know me, but you owe it to yourself to choose Mark Pierce of Benchmark home inspections!
