    We started working with Kyle and the Hatteras Island Sound Construction team back in 2008 when we purchased our lot in Hatteras. At that point, we had no plans and very vague ideas of what we wanted to build. Kyle spent a few days showing us various homes he had built over the years, pointing our good things as well as those things he would do differently if he was building the home over again. The later proved more insightful both in that we avoided those mistakes, but also in that it showed that Kyle and the team were more than just builders; they were craftsman who were constantly working to improve their craft.     My wife and I have a dream to live on Hatteras Island. In the late 90's our dream started to come to life. We purchased a lot in Waves and started to find the right builder. While on our annual vacation to HI. from northern VA. I started to visit new homes being built during our rental week. IT DROVE MY WIFE NUT'S! " ON VACATION AND YOU SPEND YOUR TIME WITH CONSTRUCTION WORKER'S" she would say. With my OCD I had to find the right builder...And I did!I first met Kyle O'Neal on a job site in 2001 and followed his work for 6 years and decided in 2007 to sign a contract for Sound Construction to build my wife's vintage " Nags Head Style' dream home.     I bought a lot in Hatteras in 1999. We started looking for a builder and found Sound Construction. They were highly recommended by a number of locals.We contacted Kyle and were on our way. He built a wonderful house in 2002-3. When we took delivery of the house we had the fun of living through hurricane Isabel which cut the island in half a 1/4 mile from our house. A number of houses in the neighborhood were badly damaged but ours came out without a scratch.Since then we have seen multiple big storms without a problem. He and his team build a solid house that has not needed much in terms of maintenance which is a big plus in this harsh environment.I would use Sound Construction...read full review
