A few years ago, my wife and I purchased a 3+ acre wooded parcel in a rural western North Carolina county. We began thinking about building a home on the property. We had no prior experience with building a custom home or working with an architect. So we began by looking at home plans on the internet. We found one that we liked, but after talking to some local builders we realized that some changes might be necessary. The builders suggested that we work with an architect.
