About Morrison Family YMCA
The Morrison Family YMCA, serving the Ballantyne community since 1999, offers various programs for over 15,000 people annually. These include high-quality youth sports, preschool, afterschool, camp, and arts programs, as well as group exercise and CrossFit for gym-goers. The facility features loads of well-lit parking, outdoor event space and pavilions, and a large outdoor swimming pool complex that has been recently improved. Inside, there is a large and well-equipped weight room, a hardwood aerobic/exercise area, a separate Pilates/Yoga studio, several basketball courts, showers, and classrooms. The YMCA also has a dedicated membership team, with staff like Delisa Johnson providing excellent support, especially in helping teens feel at home and involved. However, some concerns are noted. The basketball gym becomes nearly unusable during school breaks and holidays because it is often used as a daycare or drop-off area for parents, with children running around and disrupting others. Establishing specific adult hours during these times could help. Additionally, there are complaints about the weight room workers, who seem to spend a lot of time on their phones and neglect duties like replenishing paper towels or greeting members. Some find the membership fees a bit expensive, possibly due to the perception that some staff are not fully engaged or performing their duties. Despite these issues, the YMCA remains a great place with convenient weekday hours, though Sunday hours are shorter from 12 to 5 PM. Getting out in the morning traffic can be a bit difficult, and the overall cost for families has increased recently.
The staff is great and the facility is clean but some of the people who come here are absolute slobs, Kids and adults. They treat this place like a trash can and leave the gym and bathrooms a mess. Somehow there’s always urine everywhere on the bathroom floor
Have loved this place for 3 years. Every morning. Unfortunately, their morning openers recently hired are rude and mock members and talk/joke about them. We can hear a lot from the upper fitness center. I am beginning to see why everyone is bailing for Crunch and other gyms.
If screaming children and staff that allows posted rules to continually be broken without saying anything, this Y is for you! Don’t forget the continued broken promises of improvements year after year to try and drive membership sales… you’re better off spending more money elsewhere for an enjoyable workout. I’ve had enough!
