Hi everyone! I wanted to share a quick recommendation for a great local activity that has been a wonderful experience for our family over the last three years.
My son and husband have both been training at a traditional martial arts dojo here in Apex, and the impact has been amazing. It’s run by a 8th degree Black Belt, Mr. Houston, who is incredibly patient and has a real gift for working with kids. He manages to teach discipline in a way that feels natural and easy for them to grasp, rather than forced.

Yesterday my younger son graduated black belt, after my older son a bit more than a year ago. Both started in 2019, after looking for some physical activity for them as they were not much into other sports. Quickly I realized it was a special place. Mr Houston and his wife truly care for the students in a level I have never seen. The same apply to the staff of senior students that help him in the classes. More than just self-defense, my children learn about respect, moral values and ethic.
Great instructor and atmosphere. I just started a couple of months ago, and look forward to my classes a couple of times a week. It’s a challenging experience, but I couldn’t continue without the extreme patience from the instructor. If you’re in the area and are looking for karate in particular, go here. Highly recommend!
